You can try it on smaller. If your provider lets you easily scale it up later, there's no harm trying. I wouldn't go less than 2 cores, 4gb. It's mainly postgres that needs it. Once you have a good postgres setup you can easily add extra Ditto instances with the same postgres basically for free.
