The challenge is implementing payments in a frictionless fashion

I basically expect this to be like Kagi search engine but instead of returning webpages, it returns replies from people

One challenge I’ve found is integrating persistent mobile login on a web-app for iOS that doesn’t have terrible UX
I don’t want to handle keys and there isn’t an Amber equivalent on iOS yet
So my workaround has been to not require login at all and just give people links generated by my own key
I could add some logic like:
“IF logged in, then user uploads must be signed by user; ELSE, sign event on user’s behalf with gifbuddy key”
Then make a new page for logged-in users to see their own uploaded content
Is that what you had in mind?
Or are you guys thinking about it differently?

I’m still trying to fully form the idea in my mind, but I want an app with private groups
The interface would be like an instagram feed, but broadcast to a smaller, personal group like families sharing baby photos or close friends sharing fitness goals that aren’t broadcast to every follower
Each feed would inherently be smaller, but you could have as many groups as you want and over time you could reference back to events more easily than text messages or chat apps

Integrating GIF buddy into clients has been tricky because every developer is different
I made a GIF Buddy API for Corny Chat by @npub1yx6…7kza
I built a tool for creating personalized GIF Collections that uses a custom NIP used in ChaChi by @npub107j…ncxg
I publish every GIF that’s copied as a public event under NIP94 that other clients can freely access like noStrudel by @npub1ye5…knpr
I deployed my own relay where all the GIF related events are publically accessible under:

And I’m personally trying to code GIFs into @npub18m7…q955
My goal is to have GIFs (and even memes) in every client, but trying to build a single thing that satisfies each developer has been a challenge so much of my work has been split and pulled into different directions
Part of the challenge is that Nostr clients are inherently all built so differently: web vs. native, iOS vs. Android, one programming language vs. another
Slowly but surely we will get there

- Search and publish GIF list on the same page
- Login with Pubkey

Basically because objects are unordered lists of key value pairs that cause issues during JSON serialization whereas arrays are ordered and therefore can be predictably serialized

Looks to me like the Cashu Proof of Concept and MVP phase is complete
I'm hoping the next stage brings simpler code implementations that rival the current state of Lightning APIs (like Strike) for developers like myself that find it too daunting to incorporate into their own applications
Libraries with easy to understand functions that comply with NIP-60/61 and are interoperable with lightning zaps

Oh I think I understand the use case now
On older hardware gif results may appear as static images due to loading
Such users want to be able to verify the gif they are copying
To help with this, a feature is needed to isolate the single gif to allow it to fully load and loop for the user to verify (if wrong gif, then should be easy to go back to search results to find the next one to preview)
Is that right?
I’ll have to think about this one so it doesn’t disrupt the UX for newer devices that don’t have this issue, but I’m sure we can figure it out

Could you elaborate more on what you have in mind for viewing in “isolation/disable others”?
Not too long ago I pushed an update to improve the resolution of the search results, which likely increased the file size

GIFs are a form of expression and speech.
Thus, should have a place on most (if not all) communication clients.
The simplest and prevailing integration currently is the GIF button that performs an API call to one of the major GIF databases.
The risk associated with using these services is incredibly low, the library is vast, and implementation is trivial.
The benefits associated with GIFs should really not be underestimated. GIFs convey emotion, tone, transcend language, and are concise (unlike this note).
I believe the benefits of having GIFs integrated significantly outweigh the risks.
With that said, here are the tradeoffs to be considered when using permissioned APIs:
Censorship
- Banned media at the country level (Politically sensitive imagery)
- Banned media at the corporate level (NSFW)
- Rate limiting (1 request per second)
- Terms of conditions (Revoke API key if usage violates Terms)
Accessibility
- New upload/availability (Content rating, moderation, wait times)
- API key applications (API providers want to know their customer)
- Email address (Required for account verification)
Advertising & Surveillance
- Attribution/branding ("Powered by")
- GIF advertising (GIFs may be weighted higher than others to promote shows/programs)
- Privacy policies (Collection of data to sell to 3rd parties or modify search results)
Given this, it seems reasonable to implement a GIF button using API keys from a major GIF provider with the ability to incorporate mitigating features down the line.
Unless, of course, any one of the tradeoffs is intolerable to the app's experience (e.g. usage > rate limit, preserving privacy), which I expect to be uncommon.
I believe the use of NIP-94 fully mitigates all of these risks, but will come with its own set of tradeoffs (e.g. library size, ease of use, event retention over time).
In short:
- The best approach for nearly every client is currently to use a permissioned API and incorporate a GIF button.
- NIP-94 can and will be used as a backstop to ensure uninterrupted service for those that find the risks intolerable.
- GIFs are created by individuals and cannot be owned by anyone.
- Information yearns to be free.
- GIFs are inevitable.

I'm learning about Steganography: the practice of concealing information within another message. More specifically, I'm learning about Least Significant Bit Steganography, which changes the color of a pixel in a parent image (in this case a meme) by an indistinguishable amount to communicate the information that is hidden.
Like an an invisible watermark.
Within this meme is a secret QR code that holds 10,000 sats worth of e-cash. The money is in the meme.
E-cash, secret messages, signatures, or even private keys (though I wouldn't recommend it) could be hidden in plain sight within an image.
So instead of sending long text strings like "cashuBo2Ftdmh0dHBzOi8..." you can just pay people in memes, which I think is pretty cool.

Integrating stripe payments and Apple Pay into a webapp is so much harder than working with bitcoin APIs
You have register your domain with stripe, host a “domain association template” at one of your endpoints so you can register with Apple, have a publishable api key at another endpoint, and a half dozen other things I haven’t even figured out yet
It’s all so tiring

Simply tag the bot and note the language (e.g. Spanish), zap the quote reply and get your content
Now you can navigate the Global feed and finally know what's going on out there
