It gets forgotten these days, but the original promise of Shuttle (pre Challenger explosion) was exactly that. It only ever was used for Hubble and a couple of comm sats, but the potential was there. Several Landsats had never-used refueling ports, as did (IIRC) Spitzer, a legacy from when it was supposed to be in LEO (the S in SIRTF originally stood for Shuttle).

That allowed me to transfer on to the main attraction for the day, Flying Scotsman! LNER Class A3 4-6-2 "Flying Scotsman" was built in 1923 and was documented to reach 100 mph in 1934. After retirement in 1963, it toured both the USA and Australia before returning to the UK. It was kinda hilarious to watch such a powerful loco up and down the Didcot demonstration line, but it means I can check the train nerd box of traveling behind Flying Scotsman at least once.

First was Trojan, a goofy little 0-4-0ST built in 1897 for the Newport Docks and amalgamated into the GWR in 1923. It brought me along the Didcot branch line, ending at the reproduction transfer shed alongside the broad gauge locos.

They could use the 4680s for something else (anything else), but they're not. They are only being used in the Cybertruck, which is really low demand to the point that they might not need any more electrodes for the life of the model.

Which means that the manufacturing difficulties with 4680s haven't been solved, and Tesla's supposed miracle battery is a bust. While meanwhile, the rest of the industry has moved on...

And the big one, the New Orleans RTA St Charles Line. Opened in 1835 with steam locomotives imported from England, it is *the* oldest surviving streetcar/tram line in the world. After experiments with overhead moving cables, chemical engines using ammonia, fireless steam, and even going back to horses, it was one the first in the world to use overhead electrification. Today it still uses 1924-built Perley Thomas streetcars (900 series) and a few 1990s built replicas (400 series). Other than a street running segment in the CBD, it is on a dedicated right of way in a grassy median.

The Rampart is by far the most troubled of the RTA streetcar lines, and sure enough wasn't even running the first day I tried to take it, but I was silly enough to come back.
