It reduces the incentive for people to take public transport or ride a bike or car pool (admittedly car parking is more expensive than fuel).

55 litres if you have a fuel efficient car gets you 600km in traffic, if you travel ~40km/day that lasts you two weeks, so the saving is around $7 per week, not $14

if you have a gas guzzler, that's your problem, but you will save more which is bad policy.

Fixed my mum's 3 year old toaster, she'd bought a new one. It's basically the same model as my 20+ year old toaster, but flimsier, better looking and a more modern controller (glorified timer).

Thing is I think the old one is better. You can see in these pictures the old (white) one has much thicker metal toast guides. One of the issues with the new one was that these had bent and rubbed against the toast tray stoping it from popping up properly. Also the new one has skimped on slide bars, there is space for a third, but the just left it out to save money.

But having toasters that last decades and are easy to fix is not good for capitalism. This is the #enshittification of toasters.

Like, the power system is complex so fit goes down, "poles and wires" and retail charges go up... But solar with storage *locally* is pretty simple, the complexity comes from trying to share your bounty.

And, solar + battery makes sense for people who use more power.... They just said smaller batteries are cheaper, then use a $12k top end battery to say it's out of reach of smaller consumers. Actually if you don't use much electricity it's pretty feasible to go off grid, saving you another $400 per year.

And, they don't mention efficiency. Actually managing your energy use, like your shopping budget teaches you where you waste power, makes you look at how you can save power (insulation, solar hot water, reverse cycle a/c)

Disconnect your gas meter and save $500 per year alone from connection fees! ( not to mention the green house gas saving)

All this would have saved us all money from rising insurance and disasters if greedy fossil fuckers hadn't.... Ooops ranting, soz.
