A tender moment from the wedding morning.

Before the ceremony, before the formal photos, and before the day became busy, there were these quiet little scenes of care and connection. A quiet, joyful moment from the wedding morning.

Before the ceremony and the formal parts of the day, there were these little flashes of happiness happening naturally in the room. The kind of moments you cannot really stage, because they come from people feeling comfortable, present, and part of something meaningful.

That is what I love about candid wedding photography. A gentle family moment during the wedding morning.

Among the getting ready, the movement, and the little bursts of excitement, there are always quieter moments that say just as much as the big scenes. The wedding morning begins in the soft glow of getting ready.

There is something special about these early moments, before the ceremony, before the full rush of the day, when everyone is still settling into the emotion of what is about to happen. I’ve just published a new post on Hermes AI and Agent, looking at how portable AI can support self hosting, Linux learning, and everyday IT support.

The idea is simple: AI should not take over your machine or quietly make risky changes. It should sit beside you, explain what is happening, help organise your notes, review commands, summarise logs, and help you build reusable troubleshooting workflows.

In my setup, the mini PC becomes the home base for self hosted services and long term notes, while a USB SSD becomes a portable field kit for helping with other machines.

That feels much closer to the original spirit of personal computing: understand your tools, repair your systems, and stay in control.

Would you use a portable AI assistant for self hosting or computer repair?

https://beitmenotyou.online/hermes-ai-and-agent-portable-ai-for-self-hosting-and-it-support/

#AI #HermesAI #SelfHosting #Linux #Homelab #DigitalSovereignty #Privacy #OpenSource #TechFreedom

      Nostr

The Trump IRS settlement story is one of those moments where the quiet wording matters.

Reports say the deal creates a nearly $1.8 billion "anti-weaponisation" fund linked to Trump dropping his IRS lawsuit over leaked tax returns. Critics say the fund has weak guardrails, limited oversight, and could be used to compensate political allies, donors, or even 6 January defendants.

Reuters also reports the settlement bars the IRS from pursuing audits into Trump, his family, and his companies for past tax years.

LegalEagle's point is blunt: this is not just about one lawsuit. It is about whether public money can be redirected through vague legal machinery while accountability gets pushed out of sight.

When government power becomes a payout pipeline, transparency is not optional.

Should public settlement funds require direct congressional approval and full public reporting?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIBCjzz-bmk

#Privacy #Corruption #Accountability #RuleOfLaw #DigitalRights #SelfSovereignty

Mastodon

Reports say Trump's IRS settlement creates a nearly $1.8bn "anti-weaponisation" fund after he dropped his lawsuit over the leak of his tax returns.

Critics warn the fund has weak guardrails and could pay political allies, donors, or even 6 January defendants.

When public money moves through vague legal machinery, transparency should not be optional.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIBCjzz-bmk

#Accountability #RuleOfLaw #Corruption

Bluesky

Trump's IRS settlement reportedly creates a nearly $1.8bn "anti-weaponisation" fund with weak guardrails.

Critics warn it could pay allies, donors, or 6 January defendants.

Should public money require full transparency?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIBCjzz-bmk

#RuleOfLaw #Accountability

Signal

LegalEagle has covered the Trump IRS settlement, and the reporting around it is seriously concerning.

AP and Reuters report that the deal creates a nearly $1.8 billion "anti-weaponisation" fund after Trump dropped his lawsuit over the leak of his tax returns. Critics argue the fund has weak guardrails, limited oversight, and could be used to compensate political allies, donors, or even people involved in the 6 January cases.

Reuters also reports that the settlement bars the IRS from pursuing audits into Trump, his family, and his companies for past tax years.

The bigger issue here is simple: public money should never move through vague political machinery without clear authority, strong oversight, and public accountability.

Watch here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIBCjzz-bmk
NBTV’s latest episode breaks down the Surveillance Accountability Act, a bill introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie and Rep. Lauren Boebert on 23 April 2026 to restore warrant requirements for government searches of Americans’ personal data.

The core point is simple: your money, location, messages, health records and metadata should not become a shortcut around the Fourth Amendment just because a company, broker, or local system holds the data.

The episode also highlights the private right of action, meaning people could sue when government employees violate their constitutional protections.

Privacy is not a niche issue. It is the foundation that lets journalism, protest, dissent and real freedom survive.

Should governments need a warrant before accessing data held by third parties?

https://fountain.fm/episode/inQeOAFgm6M8QpIsd9Py

#Privacy #Surveillance #DigitalRights #FourthAmendment #DataBrokers #SelfSovereignty #FreedomTech

ActivityPub is one of the most important building blocks of the open social web.

My new guide breaks down federation in plain English: how independent servers communicate, why Mastodon, Pixelfed, PeerTube, Lemmy, WordPress, and others can connect, and why this matters for people who want more control over their online presence.

The big idea is simple: social media does not have to live inside one company’s walled garden. It can be a network of independent communities, connected by open standards, where creators, publishers and users have more choice.

Read the guide:
https://beitmenotyou.online/activitypub-federation-guide/

What would it take for more people to move from closed platforms to federated ones?

#ActivityPub #Fediverse #Decentralisation #OpenWeb #SelfSovereignty #DigitalFreedom #Privacy

Online privacy and age checks are heading for a collision, but there may be a better way.

This month, the EU highlighted its privacy-focused age-verification system, built on zero-knowledge proofs. The idea is simple: prove you are old enough without handing over your identity, birth date, or personal data.

That feels far more aligned with digital rights than uploading IDs or facial scans to third parties.

Read the link below:
https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/faqs/eu-age-verification-solution

Technical details:
https://ageverification.dev/

Can privacy-preserving verification protect children without normalising digital surveillance?

#Privacy #DigitalRights #SelfSovereignty #Decentralisation #FreedomOfExpression

Linux age verification sounds like a narrow policy debate, but it cuts right into privacy, free speech, anonymity, open source, and who gets to control access to the internet.

My new post looks at why some Linux projects are resisting operating system-level age checks, why centralised ID checks are risky, and why privacy-preserving alternatives matter.

What kind of internet do we want: one built around constant checks, or one built around user control?

https://beitmenotyou.online/linux-age-verification-debate/

#Linux #Privacy #DigitalRights #OpenSource #SelfSovereignty #Decentralisation #AgeVerification #FreedomTech

Authoritarian Finance often hides in plain sight.

OFAC says it sanctioned five people and seven companies operating in Nicaragua's gold sector, including two sons of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

The Treasury says this network helped the Murillo-Ortega regime raise funds, maintain political control, and benefit from activities linked to seized U.S.-owned property.

This is why supply chains matter. Sustainable investing cannot just mean polished branding, climate language, and a clean fund label.

FT Adviser reports that European ESG funds continued financing Kremlin-linked companies and Russian sovereign debt even as Russia prepared for war in Ukraine.

That should force a deeper question: can any investment really be called ethical if it ignores authoritarian power, Corruption, surveillance, and state violence?

ESG without human rights is just reputation management.

What should "sustainable" investing actually exclude?

https://www.ftadviser.com/content/5f6f2f56-d218-46db-98c4-103ab6d47a7a

#ESG #Ukraine #Russia #Investing #HumanRights #SustainableInvesting #Freedom #Geopolitics

Canada's Bill C-22 should worry anyone who uses encrypted messaging, not just Canadians.

EFF says the Bill revives last year's surveillance push, with powers that could pressure digital services to assist lawful access requests, expand metadata retention, and create secrecy around access orders.

That is the danger with "just one backdoor". It never stays local. Once one government normalises access to encrypted communications, others point to it as permission.

Encryption protects ordinary people: families, journalists, activists, abuse survivors, whistleblowers, and anyone who wants private conversations to stay private.

Privacy is not a loophole. Open source and decentralisation are crossing paths again.

This month, the Linux Foundation announced that Linea Stack is moving to vendor-neutral open-source governance under LF Decentralised Trust, now known as "Lineth". The idea is simple: decentralised infrastructure should not depend on a single company.

For anyone who cares about self-sovereignty, open systems, and reducing platform control, this is worth watching. Open governance can lead to stronger resilience, greater transparency, and fewer single points of failure.

Read the link below:
https://www.lfdecentralizedtrust.org/blog/announcing-lineth-a-production-grade-zk-rollup-stack-joins-linux-foundation-decentralized-trust

Linux Foundation announcement:
https://www.linuxfoundation.org/press/linea-consortium-becomes-premier-member-of-linux-foundation-decentralized-trust-contributes-linea-stack-as-newest-code-project

Does decentralised infrastructure matter if it still relies on centralised control behind the scenes?

#Linux #OpenSource #Decentralisation #SelfSovereignty #Privacy #Web3

Copy Fail is a reminder that Linux security is not just about choosing the right distro. It is about patch discipline.

This is a local privilege escalation flaw, so it does not magically break into a system from the outside. But if an attacker already gets a foothold through a weak app, stolen credentials, a compromised container, or a malicious script, this kind of bug can help them climb to root.

That matters for self hosters, VPS users, Raspberry Pi projects, Docker hosts, Kubernetes nodes, CI runners, and anyone running services exposed to the network.

Patch from official repositories. Avoid random quick fix scripts. Reboot when the kernel update needs it. Your containers only look isolated while the host kernel stays trustworthy.

What is your patch routine for Linux systems?

https://beitmenotyou.online/copy-fail-linux-privilege/

http://2ggk73giu2ipothw7wyt5fuetvnpsfbga45o7zjj45csgb2ekliuslid.onion/copy-fail-linux-privilege/

#Linux #CyberSecurity #SelfHosting #Privacy #OpenSource #DigitalSovereignty

Public USB charging ports are handy, but they also ask you to trust something you cannot see.

That port in an airport, hotel, café, car, train, hospital, or shopping centre might be fine. It might also have been tampered with.

That is where a USB data blocker comes in.

You plug your normal charging cable into the data blocker, then plug the blocker into the USB port. It only allows power to pass through and stops data from passing between the port and your phone.

It is a simple bit of kit, but a useful one, especially when you are away from home and need a charge without giving an unknown socket access to your device.

It is not magic, and it does not replace good phone security, updates, or common sense. But for travel, public charging, and unknown USB ports, it adds a cheap physical layer of protection.

Would you use one when travelling?

https://amzn.eu/d/099HG9uO

#Privacy #Security #CyberSecurity #TravelTech #DigitalSafety #PhoneSecurity #DataProtection #SelfSovereignty

Labour's local election fallout is getting messy.

The bigger story is not just whether Starmer survives, but what this says about public trust. Labour is bleeding support, Reform is surging into old heartlands, the Conservatives are still struggling, and voters look increasingly willing to punish anyone who feels out of touch.

Talk of a "replacement" makes good headlines, but the real question is deeper: are the big parties listening, or are they just planning another reset speech?

What do you think, is this a temporary protest vote or a proper political realignment?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thgaJs80Bks

#UKPolitics #Labour #KeirStarmer #ReformUK #LocalElections #Democracy

Living on a Bitcoin standard sounds simple until you actually try it.

For 21 days, Isla lived without Bank's accounts, credit cards, or cash. Every sat had to be earned. She worked, hustled, onboarded merchants, used Nostr for peer-to-peer payments, and pushed towards building a real Bitcoin Cafe on Isla Mujeres.

This is the practical side of monetary sovereignty. Microsoft once called Linux a “cancer.”

Now it talks like a friend of open source, owns GitHub, promotes WSL, pushes Copilot into developer workflows, and is building more of Windows around cloud, AI, telemetry, and managed infrastructure.

That shift is not just culture. It is power.

Open source does not only need code freedom. It needs infrastructure freedom too. If your tools, repositories, operating system, cloud compute, AI assistant, and identity layer all sit inside one corporate ecosystem, how much choice do you really have left?

This video digs into the argument that Microsoft’s “love” for open source was never simple kindness. It was a long game for control over developers, workflows, and the future of computing.

Are we building freely, or just building inside someone else’s cage?

https://youtu.be/0NGdHSvRH9M?is=Wt_3JNOGMRGOFciO

#OpenSource #Linux #Microsoft #GitHub #Copilot #Privacy #DigitalFreedom #SelfSovereignty #Decentralisation #FreeSoftware

This week’s Techlore Surveillance Report is a reminder that privacy is never just one app, one setting, or one update.

CopyFail shows why Linux users need to check their own distro’s security status, not just assume the kernel patch has landed everywhere. Apple’s iOS fix shows how deleted Signal messages could still leave traces through cached notifications. Utah’s VPN law shows how age verification keeps spilling into wider surveillance pressure.

Then there’s Microsoft Edge storing passwords in plaintext in device memory, compromised WordPress plugins, cPanel flaws, breaches at ADT and Vimeo, and supply chain risk around Bitwarden’s CLI.

The positive side? Proton is moving towards post quantum encryption, Mullvad is working around iOS networking limits, and Maryland is pushing back against surveillance pricing.

Digital safety is a stack. William Binney warned of a “turnkey totalitarian state”: the machinery of mass surveillance ready for whoever holds power next.

Section 702 is back in the spotlight after Congress kicked the fight forward with a 45 day extension. The danger is not just foreign intelligence. It is warrantless access, backdoor searches, and the normalisation of privacy as something the state can quietly take.

Surveillance powers should never be renewed without real warrants, real transparency, and real limits.

Privacy is not a loophole. This week’s privacy warning is loud.

Utah has become the first US state, according to EFF, to target VPN use around legally mandated age-verification gates.

That matters because VPNs are not “loopholes.” They are basic privacy and security tools used by journalists, workers, abuse survivors, activists, and ordinary people who simply do not want every click tied to their identity.

At the same time, EFF is also highlighting the bigger pattern: platforms being degraded for profit, ALPR surveillance being hidden from public records, and border surveillance becoming more advanced, more normalised, and harder to spot.

This is why digital rights matter.

Privacy tools should not be treated as suspicious.
Public records should not be closed when surveillance expands.
And the internet should not be reshaped around control while being sold to us as safety.

Where do you think the line should be drawn between safety rules and privacy rights?

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/04/utahs-new-law-regulating-vpns-goes-effect-next-week

https://www.eff.org/event/effecting-change-enshittification

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/04/open-records-laws-reveal-alprs-sprawling-surveillance-now-states-want-block-what

https://www.eff.org/pages/zine-surveillance-technology-us-mexico-border

#Privacy #VPN #DigitalRights #EFF #Surveillance #InternetFreedom #FreeSpeech #SelfSovereignty #Decentralisation

California’s AB 1709 should worry anyone who cares about privacy, free speech, and the future of the open internet.

The bill would block users under 16 from social media platforms and push age verification into the centre of online life. EFF warns this could mean ordinary users being forced towards government ID, biometric checks, or other identity systems just to access the modern public square.

That is not safety. That is identity gating.

Child safety matters. But the answer should be education, parental tools, platform accountability, and healthier digital design, not mass verification systems that weaken anonymity and create new privacy risks.

Should the state decide who gets to speak online?

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/04/act-now-stop-californias-paternalistic-and-privacy-destroying-social-media-ban

#Privacy #FreeSpeech #DigitalRights #AgeVerification #OnlineSafety #Decentralisation #SelfSovereignty

Copy Fail is a nasty reminder that Linux security is not about blind trust.

CVE-2026-31431 turns a tiny 732 byte local exploit into root on major distros by abusing the kernel page cache, AF_ALG and splice(). It is local, not remote, but it matters, especially on shared systems, servers, and containers.

Patch your kernel. Check your distro updates. Treat self-hosting like a living system, not a set-and-forget box.

Does this change how quickly you patch your Linux machines?

https://xint.io/blog/copy-fail-linux-distributions
https://hackaday.com/2026/05/01/this-week-in-security-state-malware-state-hardware-bans-and-stuxnet-before-stuxnet-was-cool/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9NkXU_LWzI

#Linux #OpenSource #CyberSecurity #SelfHosting #Privacy #DigitalSovereignty #Infosec

I’ve published a new guide: DMCA Guide for Fediverse.

Copyright complaints do not disappear just because a platform is federated. If anything, admins, users, and communities need clearer processes so decentralised spaces can stay open, fair, and resilient.

This guide looks at what the DMCA means, how it can affect Fediverse instances, and why community-owned platforms should carefully consider copyright without drifting back into centralised control.

How should the Fediverse handle copyright while protecting openness?

Original URL:
https://beitmenotyou.online/dmca-guide-for-fediverse/

TOR URL:
http://2ggk73giu2ipothw7wyt5fuetvnpsfbga45o7zjj45csgb2ekliuslid.onion/dmca-guide-for-fediverse/

#Fediverse #DMCA #Decentralisation #DigitalRights #SelfHosting #Privacy #OpenWeb

My new blog post is live: Ubuntu 26.04 Security Shift.

Ubuntu 26.04 is not just another Linux release. Be It Me Not You now has its own Tor .onion address.

That means the site is no longer only reachable through the ordinary web. If you use Tor Browser, you can now access the site via an onion service as well.

For me, this is not about hiding in the shadows. It is about choice, privacy, resilience, and building small exits from the centralised web.

The normal website is still there. Apple has issued emergency iPhone updates after a privacy flaw allowed deleted notification data to remain on devices. That matters because message previews from apps like Signal could potentially persist longer than expected.

Encryption is vital, but device security matters too. A critical Linux vulnerability this week shows why self-hosting and sovereignty require constant attention.

A remote code execution flaw in the CUPS printing system could allow attackers to gain root access if exposed to the internet. No login required. Just an open port. 0

This is the trade-off. Running your own systems gives you control, but also responsibility. Issue 5 of Control+Alt+Autonomy is live.

This week feels sharper.

More people are questioning who controls their devices, data, operating systems, photos, AI tools, and online lives.

Inside this issue:

France taking steps towards Linux and European alternatives.
Mozilla exploring self-hosted AI.
Immich looking at encrypted backup services.
Self-hosting communities building real alternatives.
Open source AI debates that actually matter.

The pattern is becoming clearer. Start with one move: switch an app, run a server, try Linux, back up your own data.

What gets upgraded first this week: your privacy habits, your operating system, or your independence?

https://beitmenotyou.online/controlaltautonomy-surveillance-pushback-linux-sovereignty-and-the-self-host-surge/

#Privacy #Linux #SelfHosting #DigitalSovereignty #OpenSource #Decentralisation #SelfSovereignty #DigitalFreedom #ControlAltAutonomy

Zorin OS 18.1 feels like one of those Linux releases that quietly matters.

Better Windows app detection, support for over 240 apps, smarter native Linux alternatives, advanced window tiling, refreshed productivity tools, Linux 6.17, and a new Lite edition for older machines.

That last bit is important. Not everyone needs a new laptop. Sometimes the most empowering move is giving an old machine a clean, private, modern operating system instead of feeding the upgrade treadmill.

For anyone looking at Windows 10 ending, Windows 11 hardware limits, or just wanting a calmer desktop, Zorin keeps making the Linux switch feel less intimidating.

Would you try Zorin OS Lite on an older PC?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TRuEKQUOhM

#ZorinOS #Linux #OpenSource #DigitalFreedom #SelfSovereignty #WindowsAlternative #LinuxDesktop

Reports suggest UK mobile networks are drawing up contingency plans as energy costs rise, including slower speeds, reduced signal strength, restricted access, or peak-time pricing.

That matters because mobile networks are not just entertainment pipes. They are part of how people work, pay, travel, organise, and stay safe.

This is the uncomfortable bit: when energy security breaks, digital access can become fragile too. The Iran conflict is already feeding into oil prices, shipping risk, and UK inflation. Now telecoms are warning that high electricity costs could hit network resilience.

No one should panic, and there is no confirmed consumer rationing yet. But it is a reminder that digital freedom depends on boring infrastructure: power, networks, competition, and sensible public policy.

Are we treating connectivity as critical infrastructure, or just another bill to pass on?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN_--h_jJ-E

https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-inflation-rises-33-iran-war-impact-begins-hit-2026-04-22/

#DigitalRights #UKPolitics #EnergyCrisis #Iran #MobileNetworks #Infrastructure #DigitalFreedom #SelfSovereignty

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is not just a fresh coat of paint. The big story is underneath the desktop.

GNOME 50, a Wayland-only session, better Nvidia support, Rust-based sudo, Security Centre controls, TPM-backed disk encryption, Ptyxis as the new terminal, Resources replacing System Monitor, and Papers replacing the old document viewer.

For everyday users, it should feel familiar. For power users, sysadmins, gamers, and tinkerers, this is a proper foundation shift.

The sensible move? Test before upgrading your main machine, especially if you rely on older X11 workflows, scripts, remote desktop tools, or niche hardware.

Are you upgrading straight away, waiting for 26.04.1, or sticking with your current setup for now?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MYxtL0AW2g

#Ubuntu #Linux #OpenSource #SelfHosting #DigitalFreedom #FOSS #GNOME #Wayland #Privacy #Tech

A deal between the US and Iran may sound unlikely right now, but the actual landing zones are clearer than they look.

The Strait of Hormuz is a pressure point, but trying to control it long term would risk huge international blowback. Sanctions relief could give both sides something practical to trade. This Mandelson saga now looks less like a simple process failure and more like a blame-shifting exercise. Instead of chasing endless distro tweaking, it aims for a calmer, consumer-ready Linux experience built on AlmaLinux 10 with atomic bootc updates, automatic maintenance, curated apps, and native-feeling web apps via SWAI.

Could this be the kind of Linux that finally helps more everyday people switch without the usual friction?

https://stillhq.io/stillos-10-1-is-here/

#Linux #stillOS #OpenSource #LinuxDesktop #GNOME #SelfHosting #DigitalFreedom

Today, the court ruled that the Metropolitan Police’s use of live facial recognition is lawful. That should alarm anyone who cares about privacy, civil liberties, and the future of public space.

When millions of innocent faces can be scanned in the street, surveillance stops being exceptional and starts becoming infrastructure. Wall Street is not trying to kill Bitcoin now. It is trying to wrap it, custody it, fee it, and keep it inside products people never truly control.

Morgan Stanley launched MSBT this month, and the bigger question is not price. It is power. When more BTC sits inside institutional products, more of the network's economic weight moves further away from self custody and closer to gatekeepers.

Bitcoin was built for peer to peer ownership, not permanent dependence on advisers, custodians, and closed platforms.

Are we watching adoption, or a slow capture of Bitcoin’s original purpose?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxefOzcMhPo

#Bitcoin #SelfCustody #Decentralisation #FinancialFreedom #Crypto #WallStreet #FreedomTech

Stock Android keeps asking you to trade privacy for convenience. GrapheneOS looks like one of the clearest ways out. You still get Android app compatibility, a recommended web installer, sandboxed Google Play when you actually need it, and isolated user profiles that let you keep Google-dependent apps in their own lane. That is a far better deal than handing your whole phone to the data machine.

Could GrapheneOS be the upgrade that finally gets you off stock Android?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HEgMbWjSZE

#GrapheneOS #Android #Privacy #DigitalFreedom #SelfSovereignty #DeGoogled #CyberSecurity

      Privacy nightmare on Fiverr.

Reports say files shared through Fiverr messaging were publicly accessible through Cloudinary URLs and indexed by Google, including invoices, tax forms, licences and other sensitive documents. Push notifications are treated like harmless little pings, but they can reveal who contacted you, when, what app triggered it, and sometimes even message previews. Crypto leverage did not vanish after the October wipeout; it changed shape.

Galaxy's Q4 2025 report shows that CeFi + DeFi outstanding borrowings still sat at $61.06B by quarter-end. Broader crypto-collateralised lending came in at $69.55B once CDP stablecoin supply was included. CeFi kept growing, DeFi deleveraged hard, and futures open interest still fell 39.09% to $120.11B.

That tells a bigger story than panic headlines do. The froth got hit, but the credit plumbing held up better than many expected. Less reckless, more structured, more institutional, but still very leveraged.

Is Crypto becoming more resilient, or just better at hiding systemic risk?

https://www.galaxy.com/insights/research/state-of-crypto-leverage-q4-2025
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTBbLxSWbb8

#Bitcoin #Crypto #DeFi #CeFi #Leverage #Markets #Finance #Risk

The Southport inquiry is a devastating reminder that danger does not vanish just because institutions refuse to name it.

When no agency owns the risk, warnings get diluted, language gets softened, and obvious threats are passed around until it is too late.

The most chilling part is not just that warning signs existed; it's that they were ignored. A notable shift just happened for self-custody.

The SEC has clarified that self-hosted crypto wallets can temporarily avoid broker-dealer rules if they simply act as interfaces, not intermediaries.

That matters.

It protects the idea that you can hold and control your own Bitcoin without being treated like a financial institution. No forced custody, no unnecessary middle layers.

It is only temporary guidance, but it shows something important. Tails 7.6.2 might look small, but it is not a routine update. I wrote about why this emergency release matters, how the Tor Browser confinement flaw could affect users, and why fast patching is part of real digital self defence.

Privacy tools are powerful, but they still need maintenance. That is one of the biggest lessons here. Staying sovereign online is not only about choosing the right tools. Israel and Turkey are moving into a far more dangerous rivalry, especially around Syria and the wider regional balance of power.

This does not look like an inevitable full war tomorrow, but it does look like a serious fault line: proxy escalation, military signalling, diplomatic breakdown, and the constant risk of miscalculation.

Turkey wants greater regional weight. Israel wants to stop hostile power centres forming on its borders. NATO politics, Syria, and Ankara’s economic strain all make this a volatile but complicated standoff.

Are we watching the build-up to a direct conflict, or a colder regional struggle fought through pressure, proxies, and positioning?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFt-hKROaX0

#Israel #Turkey #Syria #MiddleEast #Geopolitics #NATO #ForeignPolicy

Network shutdowns are not just technical disruptions; they are political weapons. When governments can cut or throttle access, they can choke protest, isolate communities, disrupt work, and control what the world gets to see. Connectivity is not a luxury; it should never be treated as a privilege reserved for the obedient. At some point, we have to call this what it is: infrastructure-level censorship. Knife crime destroys lives, and communities pay the price when the state looks weak, absent, or scared to Act. Targeted, intelligence-led stop and search is not racism, it is policing. EFF is calling on state attorneys general to investigate Google after it allegedly broke a clear promise to users: warn them before handing personal data to the government. US age verification just got worse.

A new House bill, H.R. 8250, would push age checks down into the operating system itself. It looks at the tension between convenience and control, and asks what real self-sovereignty actually means in a world built to guide you.

If you care about privacy, decentralisation, digital freedom, and thinking more clearly about the forces shaping everyday life, this book is for you.

https://books2read.com/b/systems-aginst-the-self

#SelfSovereignty #Decentralisation #Privacy #DigitalFreedom #FreedomOfSpeech #DigitalRights #Web3 #Philosophy

Most people use messaging apps every day without really knowing who can read what they send. I’ve just published a simple guide to end-to-end encryption, why it matters, and the secure apps worth knowing in 2026.

From Signal to encrypted email and private file sharing, this is about taking a bit more control over your digital life.

What matters most to you in a secure messaging app?

https://beitmenotyou.online/end-to-end-encryption-e2e-what-it-is-why-it-matters-and-top-secure-apps-2026/

#Privacy #Encryption #E2EE #Signal #DigitalRights #CyberSecurity

Bitcoin is now past the halfway mark in the current halving cycle. The supply schedule keeps tightening, more than 95% of all BTC has already been mined, and the road to 2028 matters because new issuance only gets scarcer from here.

Are more people finally starting to understand that Bitcoin’s real power is fixed supply, not hype?
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/news/bitcoin-moves-past-halfway-point-halving
#Bitcoin #BTC #Halving #SoundMoney #SelfCustody #Decentralisation

Tor is experimenting with something radical.

Stateless relays that run entirely in RAM. No disks, no logs, nothing left behind if servers are seized.

This matters more than it sounds.

If no data exists, there is nothing to extract, nothing to decrypt, nothing to weaponise against users or operators.

It is privacy by design, not policy.

We are seeing the same philosophy across Linux, self-hosting, and Bitcoin. Reduce trust, remove central points, eliminate stored data.

Read more:
https://www.techradar.com/vpn/vpn-privacy-security/beyond-no-log-tor-looks-into-seizure-proof-servers-that-forget-your-data

Is the future of privacy about systems that cannot store your data at all?

#Privacy #Tor #Decentralisation #SelfHosting #Linux #DigitalRights #FreedomOfSpeech

Low VRAM on NVIDIA under Linux has been a pain for ages, especially when a game runs fine right up until memory pressure kicks in and performance falls off a cliff. GreenBoost-Proton looks like a genuinely interesting workaround. It reportedly builds on GreenBoost's memory-tiering approach and adds a Vulkan layer, enabling games to access a larger memory pool and cope better when vRAM is tight.

No magic fix, and real-world results will matter more than hype, but this is exactly the kind of Linux gaming experimentation I like seeing. Could this give older NVIDIA GPUs a real second life on Linux?

https://www.phoronix.com/news/GreenBoost-Proton-NVIDIA-vRAM

#Linux #LinuxGaming #NVIDIA #Proton #OpenSource #PCGaming

Bernstein says Bitcoin has already priced in quantum risk.

Maybe the market has priced in the fear. That does not mean the work is done.

Price can front run a narrative. It cannot front run protocol upgrades, key migration, or social consensus. Quantum risk is one of those issues where waiting for panic would be the worst possible strategy.

The real signal here is not “nothing to worry about.”
It is “you still have time, so use it.”

Is Bitcoin moving fast enough on this, or are too many people treating it like a problem for later?

https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-priced-in-quantum-computing-bernstein

#Bitcoin #QuantumComputing #PostQuantum #PQC #Crypto #SelfCustody

The ECB backing tokenised EU capital markets is one of those stories where the headline sounds innovative, but the subtext is control.

Europe wants DLT rails, but with central bank money as the anchor, interoperability baked in, and strict limits around private settlement assets. Tokenisation is being welcomed, but only inside a framework the ECB can shape, supervise, and stabilise.

Is this real progress, or just programmable finance with permissioned rails?
https://cointelegraph.com/news/ecb-tokenized-eu-markets-central-bank-money-anchor

#ECB #EU #Tokenisation #DLT #Finance #DigitalAssets
