Arch is a rolling release. Every now and then a pacman -Syu breaks something: drivers, config changes, dependencies. If you built your system by hand, you know where to look. If you downloaded someone else's, you depend on the maintainer to fix it.
I use Arch, btw. Simple as that.
#omarchy

Because a decentralized, mathematically sound monetary network cannot be physically destroyed or hacked, the immune response of the fiat system has shifted from brute force to psychological warfare.

We are now entering the final battle: a massive, coordinated psychological operation designed to convince the world that Bitcoin is either inherently bad or simply another tentacle of the system of control.

To see through this illusion requires a significant intellectual "Proof of Work." It demands hundreds of hours of study into computer science, economics, cryptography, and monetary history to separate the core protocol from the market participants who trade it. Wall Street can launch derivative products, manipulate the fiat price, and corporations can hoard it, but they cannot change its code or alter its absolute scarcity. Once you recognize the undeniable realities of true decentralization, open-source transparency, and the power of self-custody, the history of these attacks reveals a desperate establishment fighting for relevance.

When we lay these coordinated assaults out chronologically, a clear pattern emerges.

Era 1: Dismissal, Criminalization, and Early Honey Pots (2009 – 2014)

In the beginning, the establishment assumed Bitcoin would die on its own. When it proved resilient, the first wave of attacks sought to discredit its legitimacy and exploit centralized failure points.

The "Ponzi Scheme / Tulip Mania" Narrative: The original PSYOP to convince the public that the network was a scam with no intrinsic value, reliant only on the greater fool theory.

The "Criminals, Drugs, and Terrorism" Trope: Triggered by early darknet markets like Silk Road, mainstream media painted Bitcoin exclusively as dark money. This deterred law-abiding citizens and laid the groundwork for draconian Know Your Customer (KYC) laws.

Custodial Exchanges as Honey Pots: Centralized points of failure, like Mt. Gox, acted as massive honey pots. When these trusted third parties were hacked or went bankrupt, the media blamed "Bitcoin" rather than the custodians, creating deep public distrust in digital self-sovereignty.

**Taxation to Kill the Medium of Exchange: **Tax agencies quietly classified Bitcoin as property rather than currency. This stealth attack forced users to calculate capital gains on a cup of coffee, introducing friction to kill Bitcoin's use as an everyday Medium of Exchange (MoE).

Era 2: Corporate Co-option and Dilution (2015 – 2019)

As the network grew too large to ignore, the corporate world realized the protocol was sound but directly threatened their rent-seeking business models. They attempted to rip the "technology" away from its native network and centralize its development.

"Blockchain, Not Bitcoin" Narrative: Bankers pushed the concept that distributed ledgers were revolutionary, they used this narrative to push financial scams and distract attention from Bitcoin.

The Blocksize War & Corporate Takeover: A literal attempt by mining cartels and major payment companies to rewrite Bitcoin's consensus rules and centralize the network. Node runners successfully defended the protocol, leading to the creation of confusing forks like Bitcoin Cash.

Stablecoins Scam: Just as the Lightning Network began to scale, stablecoins exploded. By putting centralized fiat on "blockchains", the system provided the convenience of crypto while keeping the world chained to the US Dollar, directly cannibalizing Bitcoin's MoE use case.

The Jeffrey Epstein / MIT Funding Narrative: In 2019, a targeted smear campaign attempted to link Bitcoin's core development and the MIT Media Lab to Jeffrey Epstein's funding. This was a calculated character assassination attempt to discredit the developers and taint the protocol's moral foundation in the eyes of the public.

Era 3: Distraction, FUD, and Brute Force Bans (2020 – 2022)

With rising inflation and worsening macroeconomic conditions, Bitcoin's value proposition as hard money became undeniable. The system responded with sensory overload, environmental guilt, and blunt government force.

Environmental Crusade (ESG FUD): A highly funded, coordinated narrative claiming Proof of Work was "boiling the oceans," intentionally ignoring stranded energy and grid stabilization. This attacked the moral character of holding Bitcoin.

Crypto Summer and the NFT Clown World: An explosion of digital casinos, monkey JPEGs, and infinite yield-farming tokens. This flooded the market with noise, convincing the general public that the entire space was a massive, unserious grift.

Nation-State Bans: Heavy-handed government interventions (like 3 times?), most notably China's complete ban on mining and trading, attempting to use authoritarian measures to physically stop the network.

Operation Choke Point 2.0: Following the collapse of massive crypto frauds (like FTX), regulators cracked down heavily. They forced margin calls, targeted privacy protocols, and severed the crypto industry's access to the traditional banking system.

Money Services Businesses (MSBs): The fee market pushes everyday transactions to Layer 2, which is exactly how the protocol scales. However, this creates a new choke point. As liquidity centralizes into massive Lightning hubs to facilitate global routing, regulators inevitably targeted these hubs by classifying them as 'money transmitters' or MSBs.

Era 4: Financialization, Capture, and Narrative Warfare (2023 – Now)

We are currently living through the climax of this war. The legacy system realized that if it could not beat the network, it must buy it, financialize it, and control the narrative. The current strategy is to deploy public figures and influencers with credibility to completely discredit the cypherpunk ethos of the network, coupled with insidious technical attacks.

Flooding the Chain with Spam (Ordinals, Runes, and BS): A technical and economic attack exploiting block space to bloat the blockchain with JPEGs and useless tokens. This spam artificially drives up transaction fees, pushing out everyday users and attacking Bitcoin's utility as a peer-to-peer medium of exchange.

Developer Community Division (Core vs. Knots): A deliberate attempt to fracture the unified front of Bitcoin developers. By corrupting or influencing certain actors, institutional interests sparked internal civil wars over spam filtering and protocol rules, attempting to paralyze development and consensus.

Hashpower Centralization: The ongoing, silent threat of publicly traded mining companies dominating the network's hash rate. As Wall Street funds these massive operations, the risk of state-ordered transaction censorship, KYC-compliant blocks, and corporate capture at the base layer grows exponentially.

Corporate Treasuries: Massive corporations leveraging cheap debt to hoard a finite supply of the asset, introducing risks of extreme supply centralization.

Collateralized Loans and Paper Bitcoin: Wall Street creating synthetic derivatives and loaning out the BTC, introducing fractional reserve banking and rehypothecation back into a system designed to destroy those exact practices.

The Wall Street ETFs: The ultimate Trojan Horse. While driving the price up, it shifts the culture from "Be Your Own Bank" to "Let BlackRock Hold It." It traps the BTC inside traditional brokerage accounts subject to state confiscation.

Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs): The ultimate bait-and-switch. Using the technological awakening caused by Bitcoin to shepherd the public into a system of programmable money and total financial surveillance.

The "It's Part of the System" PSYOP: One of the greatest psychological operations of our generation. The concerted effort to convince the masses that Bitcoin was created by the NSA, controlled by the CIA, or purely a tool of Wall Street and global elites.

The Looming Quantum Threat: The ever-present, futuristic FUD designed to instill technological anxiety, falsely claiming a supercomputer is just days away from hacking all wallets.

Get Up, Stand Up

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win"

We are still in the fight. They have fired every bullet. They tried to ignore it, they tried to hack it, they tried to ban it, and they tried to corporatize it. Now, their only remaining weapon is public perception.

By paying talking heads to tell you that Bitcoin is an obsolete technology, a speculative gamble, or a secret weapon of the shadow government, they rely on the fact that most people will take the easy route of skepticism over the hard route of verifying the truth.

But simply surviving the psyop is no longer enough; we must step up and dictate the narrative. It is time to aggressively reject the polished, sanitized, corporate rebranding of our network.

Bitcoin is not "digital gold" meant to gather dust in a BlackRock vault. It is not collateral for cheap fiat credit, a sterile Wall Street asset, a mainstream ETF ticker symbol, or a speculative tool to pad institutional balance sheets. Bitcoin is, and always has been, unconfiscatable, peer-to-peer freedom money.

Everything else is a distraction. Every institutional wrapper, synthetic derivative, and mainstream media framing is a calculated attack designed to pacify the masses and neutralize the network's revolutionary potential as a decentralized medium of exchange.

Do not let them steal the greatest financial revolution of our lifetime through narrative warfare. You must become an active participant in this story. The code remains open-source, the cryptography holds firm, and the network is still maintained by thousands of defiant, independent nodes.

Put in the intellectual Proof of Work, but do not stop there. Refuse to adopt the language of the legacy financial system. Educate your community, build the circular economy, and use Bitcoin as the peer-to-peer money it was built to be.

Reject the institutional Trojan Horses and take your keys off the exchanges into cold storage, run your own node, and actively transact. The only way to defeat this final psyop is to reclaim not just your financial sovereignty, but the narrative itself:

Bitcoin is P2P freedom money, and we will not settle for anything less.

How’s your week going? What have you been listening to lately? Feel free to share your current earworms! 🎶

As for me, I’m still over the moon. I was lucky enough to catch a few bands live last weekend, and now I’m completely hooked!

It all began with my husband. He’s into a genre I’ll never fully understand: breakcore.

I once told him that making breakcore is easy: just drop the amen break, toss in some weird noises, sprinkle a funny or creepy sample (maybe a screaming cat), add a few violins and finish with some tutupa tutupa, and voilà: you’ve got a song🤌🏻 He cracked up and showed me this video of one of breakcore’s OGs saying almost the same thing. Glad to see he doesn’t take it too seriously, I laughed hard.

The artist (or now, band) my husband really wanted to see was Igorrr. According to my husband (not my words!), Igorrr’s last real album was Hallelujah.

I have to admit: they were awesome live. We’d seen them before, but this time I noticed that what used to be their defining sound, breakcore, has now become more of an interlude between songs. A bit of a shame, even for someone who’s not into the genre. Still, they gave one hell of a show. My only note: maybe tone down the lighting just a tad, there were moments I felt genuinely blinded 😅

Now for the revelations of the night (for me): Two bands I discovered thanks to this lineup absolutely blew me away.

First up: Imperial Triumphant, a black metal band from New York who describe their sound as Avant Death. They ripped it. Sadly, the vocals came across a bit muddy (too distant and unclear) but musically? Top notch. You have to see them live if you ever get the chance. Just a small warning: they have a “champagne moment,” so if you’re in the front row… bring an umbrella 🥂☂️

Pretty sure the guy who sold me a patch afterward was actually one of the band members, but I was too shy to ask. Later I checked their Instagram and it looked like it really was him!

Next: Master Boot Record. They call their style computer metal, and it fits perfectly. They absolutely shredded the stage and yes, one of their animations humorously featured a Windows install. Totally electrifying. They sounded even better live than in any videos I’d found beforehand.

After the show, I grabbed a patch from them too. When one of the guitarists said hi, I had to tell him how blown away I was. Totally worth it!

Two and a half hours and a few pin pricks later, I finally sewed my new patches and I swear, I feel like the coolest kid on the block 😎

Have you been to any concerts lately? Any you’d love to go to, or one you still remember fondly?

Now I’m off to sip my matcha. Never thought I’d enjoy it, but oh boy, I’m a matcha lover now 🍵

Godspeed, and see you later, alligator 🐊

https://stacker.news/items/1262312

I’ve been lost in the Gnostic texts: reading, researching, and just trying to make sense of this bizarre, beautiful, and sometimes bewildering world (especially the material one, if you ask the Gnostics! 😜).

Even though I’ve already taken a deep dive into these cosmic mysteries, this new round was a wild ride.

Let’s be real: with the Gnostic gospels, it’s never easy. It only gets whackier the deeper you go. IYKYK

Still, it was a joy to put together my latest blog entry all about the archons: their chaos, their cosmic drama, and why they’re perfect material for spooky season. Plus, you’ll find some wild takes on the creation of Adam and Eve. 🎃

I poured my heart into the illustrations (and had a blast making them). Check out the post, let me know what you think, and enjoy your weekend, frens!

Bullshit. We were the fuel: cheap liquidity, telemetry, and prompts. Welcome to the post-utopian era where your wallet and your prompts are the biomass the new feudal lords grind down to press into financial products and Enterprise plans. The dream of digital sovereignty has been recycled into barns segmented by ARPU, rationed “access,” and calibrated extraction.
We were sold two parallel epics: the one about financial decentralization and the one about “AI for everyone.” Two stories of technological emancipation. In both cases the arc looks way too similar: romantic phase, chaotic explosion, financialization, infra‑regulatory capture, and finally the stage where you, the user, stop being the protagonist and become input. Granular liquidity in crypto. Traffic and prompts in AI. You are throughput. Not a sovereign customer—inventory optimized for yield extraction.
While memecoins tied to political or media figures reach absurd market caps without cash flow or utility, protocols actually building technical foundations get displaced because distribution of attention and speculative expectation weigh more than intrinsic value. Narrative > technical merit. Same thing you’ll see in AI with “alignment” branding versus model transparency.
The end-user layer is emptied of novelty. The model that scales is B2B2C: you build for institutional desks, custodians, or regulated funds; they bundle the experience and milk their retail herd. You operate as structural liquidity and compliance layer. And here comes the variable we ignored before: licenses, whitelists, KYC, permissions. Compliance went from nuisance to moat. You can fork code; you can’t fork a license or banking access. Base (the L2 leveraged by Coinbase’s regulated position) and the expansion of a stablecoin like USDC illustrate this: legal legitimacy turned into a TVL magnet.
A couple cycles ago the conversation revolved around consensus, ZK proofs, L2 scaling, privacy. Today serious liquidity concentrates where there’s a narrative digestible by an investment committee: asset tokenization (RWA), structured instruments, capture of yield flows. The TPS race and TVL inflated via incentives are already historical residue. Capital efficiency matters: how many times can I rehypothecate the same dollar of collateral, how to isolate and commercialize the temporal component (principal vs yield), how to internalize MEV for the protocol instead of letting it leak invisibly.
It’s not the magical glow of cryptography gaining traction, it’s financial engineering applying techniques familiar to traditional traders: implicit forward curves, basis trades, optimized carry.
Artificial intelligence repeats the pattern with different raw materials.
Same principle: value extraction through control of the orchestration layer.
The general user feeds metrics (DAU, tokens generated, use cases), produces an implicit dataset of prompts to calibrate safety heuristics, response ranking, and monetization strategies, and serves as a statistical shock absorber to justify more hardware investment that later gets reserved for high‑margin clients.
The user senses or suspects gradual degradations: less precise answers, variable latency, silent cuts in context length. Meanwhile Enterprise clients enjoy privileged lanes: separate queues, higher precision (less quantization), stabler sampling. Nobody announces it on a banner, but the economic incentive is trivial: prioritize expensive compute where the contract justifies cost; amortize the rest with compressed versions.
Both sectors subject users to novelties just attractive enough to maintain throughput, but calibrated not to hand over so much value that margins crack. You are efficient cattle: you consume interface, produce signal, generate spread.
Initial decentralization or openness functions as the bootstrap phase: attract critical mass under an ideal, identify monetization vectors, then close the gates gradually.
Sovereignty isn’t paranoia: it’s designing a gradient where the marginal cost of extracting value from you without consent goes up.
Your knowledge is your ammunition.

Thanks for your time.

"Bitcoin is Digital Gold."

"It will be a reserve asset, but it won't be used as money."

"Competing cryptocurrencies will fulfill the role of payments."

"The dollar and bitcoin will exist side by side."

These are the type of statements made by small-minded individuals who are either afraid to admit that bitcoin is well on its way to becoming the next global reserve currency or completely missing what's happening right in front of them. This type of person lacks the vision and patience necessary to see that bitcoin can certainly be the foundation for the world's monetary and financial system. With people using bitcoin as a store of value and leveraging the distributed messaging protocol and the layers built on top of it to make bitcoin payments, create more complex financial arrangements with smart contracts and enable machine-to-machine payments.

It's simply going to take time to build out all of the necessary infrastructure, software libraries, companies that leverage this infrastructure and software, and to acquire the users who will ultimately use bitcoin as their day-to-day payments network and preferred store of value.

We've seen this play out in the protocol world with Linux over the last 34 years. The story of Linux is certainly not a story of an overnight success. Linux too decades to become sufficiently robust, efficient, secure and reliable before it became the Schelling point of modern computing.

Bitcoin's journey will be similar. And in my humble opinion, it is inevitable.

The Silent Depression: Why Official Statistics Hide America's Economic Crisis

Robert from Infranomics presents compelling evidence that Americans are experiencing economic hardship comparable to the Great Depression, despite official statistics suggesting otherwise. He points to suicide rates matching Depression-era levels and deaths of despair—suicides plus drug overdoses—running at double the rate of the 1930s. The data reveals a 13x increase in antidepressant prescriptions since 1970, while real purchasing power has collapsed, with average hourly wages down 80% when priced in gold since 2000.

"Deaths of despair went vertical starting in 2001 when China joined the WTO." - Robert (@Infraa_)

The connection between economic policy and human suffering becomes undeniable when examining the Rust Belt's decimation following manufacturing job losses. Robert's analysis shows personal income divided by M2 money supply has fallen 30%, revealing how monetary expansion has outpaced wage growth. While these statistics paint a grim picture, recognizing the true extent of the problem is the first step toward meaningful solutions that could restore economic opportunity for everyday Americans.

Read the original blog post

Bitcoin enthusiasts frequently and correctly remark how much value it adds to Bitcoin not to have a face, a leader, or a central authority behind it. This particularity means there isn't a single person to exert control over, or a single human point of failure who could become corrupt or harmful to the project.

Because of this, it is said that no other coin can be equally valuable as Bitcoin in terms of decentralization and trustworthiness. Bitcoin is unique not just for being first, but also because of how the events behind its inception developed. This implies that, from Bitcoin onwards, any coin created would have been created by someone, consequently having an authority behind it. For this and some other reasons, some people refer to Bitcoin as "The Immaculate Conception".

While other coins may have their own unique features and advantages, they may not be able to replicate Bitcoin's community-driven nature. However, one other cryptocurrency shares a similar story of mystery behind its creation: Monero.

History of Monero

Bytecoin and CryptoNote

In March 2014, a Bitcointalk thread titled "Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012" was initiated by a user under the nickname "DStrange"1. DStrange presented Bytecoin (BCN) as a unique cryptocurrency, in operation since July 2012. Unlike Bitcoin, it employed a new algorithm known as CryptoNote.

DStrange apparently stumbled upon the Bytecoin website by chance while mining a dying bitcoin fork, and decided to create a thread on Bitcointalk1. This sparked curiosity among some users, who wondered how could Bytecoin remain unnoticed since its alleged launch in 2012 until then2 3.

Some time after, a user brought up the "CryptoNote v2.0" whitepaper for the first time, underlining its innovative features4. Authored by the pseudonymous Nicolas van Saberhagen in October 2013, the CryptoNote v2 whitepaper5 highlighted the traceability and privacy problems in Bitcoin. Saberhagen argued that these flaws could not be quickly fixed, suggesting it would be more efficient to start a new project rather than trying to patch the original5, an statement simmilar to the one from Satoshi Nakamoto6.

Checking with Saberhagen's digital signature, the release date of the whitepaper seemed correct, which would mean that Cryptonote (v1) was created in 20127 8, although there's an important detail: "Signing time is from the clock on the signer's computer" 9.

Moreover, the whitepaper v1 contains a footnote link to a Bitcointalk post dated May 5, 201310, making it impossible for the whitepaper to have been signed and released on December 12, 2012.

As the narrative developed, users discovered that a significant 80% portion of Bytecoin had been pre-mined11 and blockchain dates seemed to be faked to make it look like it had been operating since 2012, leading to controversy surrounding the project.

The origins of CryptoNote and Bytecoin remain mysterious, leaving suspicions of a possible scam attempt, although the whitepaper had a good amount of work and thought on it.

The fork

In April 2014, the Bitcointalk user
thankful_for_today
, who had also participated in the Bytecoin thread12, announced plans to launch a Bytecoin fork named Bitmonero13 14.

The primary motivation behind this fork was "Because there is a number of technical and marketing issues I wanted to do differently. And also because I like ideas and technology and I want it to succeed"14. This time Bitmonero did things different from Bytecoin: there was no premine or instamine, and no portion of the block reward went to development.

However, thankful_for_today proposed controversial changes that the community disagreed with. Johnny Mnemonic relates the events surrounding Bitmonero and thankful_for_today in a Bitcointalk comment15:

When thankful_for_today launched BitMonero [...] he ignored everything that was discussed and just did what he wanted. The block reward was considerably steeper than what everyone was expecting. He also moved forward with 1-minute block times despite everyone's concerns about the increase of orphan blocks. He also didn't address the tail emission concern that should've (in my opinion) been in the code at launch time. Basically, he messed everything up. Then, he disappeared.

After disappearing for a while, thankful_for_today returned to find that the community had taken over the project. Johnny Mnemonic continues:

I, and others, started working on new forks that were closer to what everyone else was hoping for. [...] it was decided that the BitMonero project should just be taken over. There were like 9 or 10 interested parties at the time if my memory is correct. We voted on IRC to drop the "bit" from BitMonero and move forward with the project. Thankful_for_today suddenly resurfaced, and wasn't happy to learn the community had assumed control of the coin. He attempted to maintain his own fork (still calling it "BitMonero") for a while, but that quickly fell into obscurity.

The unfolding of these events show us the roots of Monero. Much like Satoshi Nakamoto, the creators behind CryptoNote/Bytecoin and thankful_for_today remain a mystery16 17, having disappeared without a trace. This enigma only adds to Monero's value.

Since community took over development, believing in the project's potential and its ability to be guided in a better direction, Monero was given one of Bitcoin's most important qualities: a leaderless nature. With no single face or entity directing its path, Monero is safe from potential corruption or harm from a "central authority".

The community continued developing Monero until today. Since then, Monero has undergone a lot of technological improvements, migrations and achievements such as RingCT and RandomX. It also has developed its own Community Crowdfundinc System, conferences such as MoneroKon and Monerotopia are taking place every year, and has a very active community around it.

Monero continues to develop with goals of privacy and security first, ease of use and efficiency second. 18

This stands as a testament to the power of a dedicated community operating without a central figure of authority. This decentralized approach aligns with the original ethos of cryptocurrency, making Monero a prime example of community-driven innovation. For this, I thank all the people involved in Monero, that lead it to where it is today.

And that’s okay. There are days like that. But this time, it felt like something deeper, as if something was off. Like I wasn’t enough.

🌞 Thankfully, as the days went by, I started to feel better. Today, I feel like myself again—like I’ve put my human suit back on and climbed back on the horse.

✏️ I picked up my pencil and started drawing again, just me and my iPad, without any expectations weighing me down. It felt good—peaceful even—to create for the sake of creating.

🦉 What I’ve realized is this: It’s not bad to have goals or aspirations. Those are important! But what becomes unhealthy is chasing perfectionism while trying to achieve those goals. For me, perfectionism turns into a spiral—not rainbows and butterflies but a storm cloud of self-doubt.
I guess I just want to share this in case anyone out there needs to hear it: It’s okay to be imperfect. And most importantly, it’s okay to just be yourself.

To those little leprechauns of doubt kicking and screaming inside my head, I can confidently say:Not today, Satan!

🎨 As part of my journey back to myself this week, I decided to draw something simple and even try my hand at a little animation since it had been a while. Here’s what I came up with:

Imposter syndrome can be deceiving—it whispers lies about your worth and tries to steal your joy—but just like anything in life, this too shall pass.

🎢 The ebbs and flows are part of life’s natural rhythm; you’d think I’d have learned that by now! But life has its way of (re)teaching us lessons when we need them most.

✨ To anyone reading this who might be struggling: Be kind to yourself. You’re doing better than you think you are. And remember—you are enough.

Godspeed

The Bybit hack wasn’t just a theft—it was a surgical strike exposing the fatal flaw of “crypto” that isn’t Bitcoin. This wasn’t a bug. It was a feature of a system designed to fail.

Here’s how North Korea’s Lazarus Group stole $1.5B in ETH, why “decentralized finance” is a joke, and how Bitcoin remains the only exit from this circus.

I. The Heist: How Centralized “Crypto” Betrayed Its Users

A. The Multisig Mousetrap (Or: Why You’re Still Using a Bank)

Bybit’s Ethereum cold wallet used multisig, requiring multiple approvals for transactions. Sounds secure, right? Wrong.
	•	The Con: Hackers didn’t pick the lock; they tricked the keyholders using a UI masking attack. The wallet interface showed “SEND TO BYBIT”, but the smart contract was whispering “SEND TO PYONGYANG.”
	•	Bitcoin Parallel: Bitcoin’s multisig is enforced on hardware, not a website UI. No browser spoofing, no phishing emails—just raw cryptography.

Ethereum’s multisig is a vault with a touchscreen PIN pad. Bitcoin’s is a mechanical safe with a key only you hold. Guess which one got robbed?

B. Smart Contracts: Dumb as a Bag of Hammers

The thieves didn’t “hack” Ethereum—they exploited its smart contract complexity.
	•	Bybit’s security depended on a Safe.global contract. Lazarus simply tricked Bybit into approving a malicious upgrade.
	•	Imagine a vending machine that’s programmed to take your money but never give you a soda. That’s Ethereum’s “trustless” tech.

Why Bitcoin Wins: Bitcoin doesn’t do “smart contracts” in the Ethereum sense. Its scripting language is deliberately limited—less code, fewer attack vectors.

Ethereum is a Lego tower; Bitcoin is a granite slab. One topples, one doesn’t.

II. The Laundering: Crypto’s Dirty Little Secret

A. Mixers, Bridges, and the Art of Spycraft

Once the ETH was stolen, Lazarus laundered it at lightspeed:
	1.	Mixers (eXch) – Obfuscating transaction trails.
	2.	Bridges (Chainflip) – Swapping ETH for Bitcoin because that’s the only exit that matters.

Bitcoin Reality Check: Bitcoin’s privacy tools (like CoinJoin) are self-custodial—no third-party mixers. You keep control, not some “decentralized” website waiting to be hacked.

Ethereum’s “bridges” are burning rope ladders. Bitcoin’s privacy? An underground tunnel only you control.

B. The $1.5B Lie: “Decentralized” Exchanges Are a Myth

Bybit’s “cold wallet” was on Safe.global—a so-called “decentralized” custodian. Translation? A website with extra steps.
	•	When Safe.global got breached, the private keys were stolen instantly.
	•	“Decentralized” means nothing if your funds depend on one website, one server, one weak link.

Bitcoin’s Answer: Self-custody. Hardware wallets. Cold storage. No trusted third parties.

Using Safe.global is like hiding your life savings in a gym locker labeled “STEAL ME.”

III. The Culprits: State-Sponsored Hackers & Crypto’s Original Sin

A. Lazarus Group: Crypto’s Robin Hood (For Dictators)

North Korea’s hackers didn’t break cryptography—they broke people.
	•	Phishing emails disguised as job offers.
	•	Bribes & social engineering targeting insiders.
	•	DeFi governance manipulation (because Proof-of-Stake is just shareholder voting in disguise).

Bitcoin’s Shield: No CEO to bribe. No “upgrade buttons” to exploit. No governance tokens to manipulate. Code is law—and Bitcoin’s law is written in stone.

Ethereum’s security model is “trust us.” Bitcoin’s is “verify.”

B. The $3B Elephant: Altcoins Fund Dictators

Since 2017, Lazarus has stolen $3B+ in crypto, funding North Korea’s missile program.

Why? Because Ethereum, Solana, and XRP are built on Proof-of-Stake (PoS)—which centralizes power in the hands of a few rich validators.
	•	Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work: Miners secure the network through energy-backed cryptography.
	•	Altcoins’ Proof-of-Stake: Security is dictated by who owns the most tokens.

Proof-of-Stake secures oligarchs. Proof-of-Work secures money. That’s why Lazarus can drain altcoin treasuries but hasn’t touched Bitcoin’s network.

IV. Bybit’s Survival: A Centralized Circus

A. The Bailout: Banks 2.0

Bybit took bridge loans from “undisclosed partners” (read: Wall Street vultures).
	•	Just like a traditional bank, Bybit printed liquidity out of thin air to stay solvent.
	•	If that sounds familiar, it’s because crypto exchanges are just banks in hoodies.

Bitcoin Contrast: No loans. No bailouts. No “trust.” Just 21 million coins, mathematically secured.

Bybit’s solvency is a confidence trick. Bitcoin’s solvency is math.

B. The Great Withdrawal Panic

Within hours, 350,000+ users scrambled to withdraw funds.

A digital bank run—except this isn’t a bank. It’s an exchange that pretended to be decentralized.

Bitcoin fixes this: your wallet isn’t an IOU. It’s actual money.

Bybit = a TikTok influencer promising riches. Bitcoin = the gold in your basement.

V. The Fallout: Regulators vs Reality

A. ETH’s 8% Crash vs Bitcoin’s Unshakable Base

Ethereum tanked because it’s a tech stock, not money. Bitcoin? Dropped 2% and stabilized.

No CEO, no headquarters, no attack surface.

B. The Regulatory Trap

Now the bureaucrats come in demanding:
	1.	Wallet audits (they don’t understand public ledgers).
	2.	Mixer bans (criminalizing privacy).
	3.	KYC everything (turning crypto into a surveillance state).

Bitcoin’s Rebellion: You can’t audit what’s already transparent. You can’t ban what’s unstoppable.

VI. Conclusion: Burn the Altcoins, Stack the Sats

The Bybit hack isn’t a crypto problem. It’s an altcoin problem.

Ethereum’s smart contracts, DeFi bridges, and “decentralized” wallets are Swiss cheese for hackers. Bitcoin? A titanium vault.

The Only Lessons That Matter:

✅ Multisig isn’t enough unless it’s Bitcoin’s hardware-enforced version.
✅ Complexity kills—every altcoin “innovation” is a security risk waiting to happen.

Lazarus Group won this round because “crypto” ignored Bitcoin’s design. The solution isn’t better regulations—it’s better money.

Burn the tokens. Unplug the servers. Bitcoin is the exit.

Take your money off exchanges. Be sovereign.

Platforms like Umbrel, Start9, myNode, and Citadel offer user-friendly interfaces to simplify node management. However, for those serious about maintaining a robust and efficient Lightning node ⚡, relying solely on these platforms may not be the optimal choice.

Let’s delve into why embracing Bitcoin Core and mastering the command-line interface (CLI) can provide a more reliable, sovereign, and empowering experience.

Understanding Node Management Platforms

What Are Umbrel, Start9, myNode, and Citadel?

Umbrel, Start9, myNode, and Citadel are platforms designed to streamline the process of running a Bitcoin node. They offer graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that allow users to manage various applications, including Bitcoin Core and Lightning Network nodes, through a web-based dashboard 🖥️.

These platforms often utilize Docker containers 🐳 to encapsulate applications, providing a modular and isolated environment for each service.

The Appeal of Simplified Node Management

The primary allure of these platforms lies in their simplicity. With minimal command-line interaction, users can deploy a full Bitcoin and Lightning node, along with a suite of additional applications.

✅ Easy one-command installation
✅ Web-based GUI for management
✅ Automatic app updates (but with delays, as we’ll discuss)

However, while this convenience is attractive, it comes at a cost.

The Hidden Complexities of Using Node Management Platforms

While the user-friendly nature of these platforms is advantageous, it can also introduce several challenges that may hinder advanced users or those seeking greater control over their nodes.

🚨 Dependency on Maintainers for Updates

One significant concern is the reliance on platform maintainers for updates. Since these platforms manage applications through Docker containers, users must wait for the maintainers to update the container images before they can access new features or security patches.

🔴 Delayed Bitcoin Core updates = potential security risks
🔴 Lightning Network updates are not immediate
🔴 Bugs and vulnerabilities may persist longer

Instead of waiting on a third party, why not update Bitcoin Core & LND yourself instantly?

⚙️ Challenges in Customization and Advanced Operations

For users aiming to perform advanced operations, such as:

Custom backups 📂

Running specific CLI commands 🖥️

Optimizing node settings ⚡

…the abstraction layers introduced by these platforms become obstacles.

Navigating through nested directories and issuing commands inside Docker containers makes troubleshooting a nightmare. Instead of a simple
bitcoin-cli
command, you must figure out how to execute it inside the container, adding unnecessary complexity.

Increased Backend Complexity

To achieve frontend simplicity, these platforms make the backend more complex.

🚫 Extra layers of abstraction
🚫 Hidden logs and settings
🚫 Harder troubleshooting

The use of multiple Docker containers, custom scripts, and unique file structures can make system maintenance and debugging a pain.

This complication defeats the purpose of “making running a node easy.”

✅ Advantages of Using Bitcoin Core and Command-Line Interface (CLI)

By installing Bitcoin Core directly and using the command-line interface (CLI), you gain several key advantages that make managing a Bitcoin and Lightning node more efficient and empowering.

Direct Control and Immediate Updates

One of the biggest downsides of package manager-based platforms is the reliance on third-party maintainers to release updates. Since Bitcoin Core, Lightning implementations (such as LND, Core Lightning, or Eclair), and other related software evolve rapidly, waiting for platform-specific updates can leave you running outdated or vulnerable versions.

By installing Bitcoin Core directly, you remove this dependency. You can update immediately when new versions are released, ensuring your node benefits from the latest features, security patches, and bug fixes. The same applies to Lightning software—being able to install and update it yourself gives you full autonomy over your node’s performance and security.

🛠 Simplified System Architecture

Platforms like Umbrel and myNode introduce extra complexity by running Bitcoin Core and Lightning inside Docker containers. This means:

The actual files and configurations are stored inside Docker’s filesystem, making it harder to locate and manage them manually.

If something breaks, troubleshooting is more difficult due to the added layer of abstraction.

Running commands requires jumping through Docker shell sessions, adding unnecessary friction to what should be a straightforward process.

Instead, a direct installation of Bitcoin Core, Lightning, and Electrum Server (if needed) results in a cleaner, more understandable system. The software runs natively on your machine, without containerized layers making things more convoluted.

Additionally, setting up your own systemd service files for Bitcoin and Lightning** is not as complicated as it seems**. Once configured, these services will run automatically on boot, offering the same level of convenience as platforms like Umbrel but without the unnecessary complexity.

Better Lightning Node Management

If you’re running a Lightning Network node, using CLI-based tools provides far more flexibility than relying on a GUI like the ones bundled with node management platforms.

🟢 Custom Backup Strategies – Running Lightning through a GUI-based node manager often means backups are handled in a way that is opaque to the user. With CLI tools, you can easily script automatic backups of your channels, wallets, and configurations.

🟢 Advanced Configuration – Platforms like Umbrel force certain configurations by default, limiting how you can customize your Lightning node. With a direct install, you have full control over:
* Channel fees 💰
* Routing policies 📡
* Liquidity management 🔄

🟢 Direct Access to LND, Core Lightning, or Eclair – Instead of issuing commands through a GUI (which is often limited in functionality), you can use:
*
lncli
(for LND)
*
lightning-cli
(for Core Lightning)
…to interact with your node at a deeper level.

Enhanced Learning and Engagement

A crucial aspect of running a Bitcoin and Lightning node is understanding how it works.

Using an abstraction layer like Umbrel may get a node running in a few clicks, but it does little to teach users how Bitcoin actually functions.

By setting up Bitcoin Core, Lightning, and related software manually, you will:

✅ Gain practical knowledge of Bitcoin nodes, networking, and system performance.
✅ Learn how to configure and manage RPC commands.
✅ Become less reliant on third-party developers and more confident in troubleshooting.

🎯 Running a Bitcoin node is about sovereignty – learn how to control it yourself.

Become more sovereign TODAY

Many guides make this process straightforward
K3tan has a fantastic guide on running Bitcoin Core, Electrs, LND and more.
