I sic AdNauseum onto blocking Rovo out of Atlassian&#39;s UI frequently, and even went as far as using a TUI interface to Jira to avoid it. While conservative in the *style* of tools I use, I still believe in keeping things up-to-date. So while I might not use all the latest features, I do believe in keeping up with security updates.<br/><br/>At work I mainly code in C/C++ or JavaScript, and greatly prefer the former. At home, I will use whatever gets the job done: C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, PHP, Bourne shell… and know enough SQL to be dangerous. I also do some circuit design (Kicad) and know which end of a soldering iron to hold. When I talk &#34;full stack&#34; I mean silicon to frontend. Only today did I get around to finally biting the bullet and trying a migration.<br/><br/>I mounted the new VMs disks, temporarily changed IP address/hostname settings, then fired it up, did my OS updates, then started hacking.<br/><br/>PostgreSQL needed a dump/restore as I was moving from v16 to v18… easy.<br/>OpenLDAP seemed to JustWork.<br/>Dovecot took some tweaking to get it to talk to LDAP again, but it seems to be okay on the test copy.<br/><br/>I then tried telnetting to port 25 and hand-sending an email to myself … that landed in the right place. One thing I notice is that over time, the flow rate of the fan drops considerably… I wind up having to turn the fan off at the wall, undo the screw that locks the cover on, undo all the clips, then dismantle the fan cover and remove the propeller.<br/><br/>Then take all that out to the front verandah and attack all three with a dustpan brush. Plus stereo is done by offsetting the left/right pick-ups by 45°, I wouldn&#39;t bet on perfect stereo separation.<br/><br/>You can probably assume a usable bandwidth of about 25kHz on a new record, but that will degrade as it is played.<br/><br/>There was a record format that used ultrasonics to encode quadraphonic audio (CD-4 / Quadradisc) that required a stylus capable of detecting signals up to 45kHz… but this also required a specialised stylus and record formulations.<br/><br/>It&#39;d be interesting to consider maybe a phase-shift keying system centred around a 10kHz carrier… QAM would be better of course but the non-linearity of the medium would probably make a mess of it.<br/><br/>Let&#39;s assume SNR of ~70dB, bandwidth of 20kHz. Shannon-Hartley states we should see something around 465kbaud. I&#39;ll leave it permanently fitted and just take the visor off.<br/><br/>Eating my dinner after the bike ride, I hear *snap*… now that strap is 2cm shorter than it was before, and it already was exceptionally tight.<br/><br/>Partially because the visor holder was meant for a ERB hard hat, the brims on those have a very flat angle similar to the Scott Safety TA-440 hard hats we can get here. I later tried fitting it to a MSA V-guard, and the brim on that has a ~20° taper, so I had to get inventive to make it fit. The solution wound up being using the MSA extension brim and some hot-snot glue.<br/><br/>The one I have now is some generic brand, and it&#39;s in between in terms of taper, but a wider brim… so even more strain on that strap. I guess that plus aging of the rubber, it was finally too much.<br/><br/>The strap is a rubber cord about 5mm in diameter, probably easily sourced locally. I&#39;ll put the bits on one side and have a look around.<br/><br/>In the meantime, if I need to use the wipper snipper, looks like I&#39;ll be digging out the full-face elastomeric mask. That worked okay… maybe not as comfortable as the visor but it got the job done.
