But I&#39;m not sure (a) how to configure my #mikrotik to pick up whatever v6 range my ISP is sending, and (b) partition it into a couple predictable ranges. I think they delegate a /64. and then (c) assign those ranges to certain sets of systems. If you turned it into housing for 200 people, how many would you need? 50? 80? A data center can be in a place where there is no sewer and poor septic performance. But it’s only an office and it only has a handful of toilets. It’s not my area, so I won’t be too confident. But it seems like the site wouldn’t have what one needs for human waste at the scale of housing.<br/><br/>Then how about schools, parks, and grocery stores? A lot of data centers are built far from nice neighborhoods and amenities on purpose. So you’d have housing that sucked to live in. Long school trips, long commutes, no amenities like libraries and parks. The three most important things in real estate have always been: location, location, location.<br/><br/>And some of these horrible data centers (eg xAI in Memphis) aren’t on the grid. They’re burning natural gas to make their own electricity. (And pollute the air for the people nearby). That wouldn’t be reasonable for housing. So to repurpose for housing they’d have to totally redo the electrical and actually connect to the grid.<br/><br/>The building itself, as others have mentioned, would have to be torn down. It can’t be retrofitted for less money than tearing it down and rebuilding housing.<br/><br/>I suspect there is VERY little reusable for housing if one tried to repurpose a data center. Basically the dirt that it was built on. I don’t. This was the first experiment to see how a long trip would go. I mainly use it for tooling around town. I only do level 1 charging at home and I can charge it like once a week.
