I’d tend to agree, but I quite liked the brutality of that dynamic. The author gets you invested and then just tears it away from you. I loved the clinical retelling of the war in the appendix. I hadn’t really thought of how that all played into illustrating the nature of the war.

The cannibals on the island was a truly odd aside, to your point. Maybe just an insight into how cruel humans can be even if they’re supposedly on the same side in a conflict?

haha I’ve tried it before, but I inevitably find the friction with iOS to be a little too irritating, while something like Fastmail is open enough to play nicely with Apple’s services. The most tedious part was using rclone to move my music from Drive to Dropbox.
