Did a bunch of terrain 3D printing the past few days. We concluded our #KingdomDeathMonster campaign last weekend and plan to start a new one when we meet again in a few weeks. We'll be fighting new monsters so decided to print the corresponding terrain where it made sense.

These aren't usually hard to paint as it's a lot of a single base color and then some dry brushing. Going to need to set some time aside to prime them.

Tonight I'll try and finish off the last 2 paint projects I had going. https://infosec.exchange/@Diami03/116638158472329662

Yesterday I felt well enough to finish assembling the last complicated #KingdomDeathMonster miniature, The Parasite Queen. Thank goodness KDM put up a build guide for this one, because it was not trivial. I'm super intimidated when the time comes to paint her. So many damn details.

We trust AI to be rational. We trust it to cooperate. Then we're shocked when it behaves like a toddler with a keyboard. Maybe the real problem is we're projecting competence onto something that's just very good at pattern matching.

Primed and base coated with the airbrush. These are the next set, and currently last, of the nemesis/monsters that I need to paint to meet my self imposed goal. These are the #BoneEaters from #KingdomDeathMonster.

Reference photos found and now I just need to gather the paints. Don't think I'll get far today as I have to pick the Mr up from the airport and then dinner plans.

The last 2 days the Mr and I redid the hobby area. We assembled the resin enclosure that allowed us to put everything in its permanent location. Inside the enclosure is the resin printer (Saturn 2). Especially since the Mr got me a new FDM 3D printer (Bambu P1S) for Xmas. I am very chuffed to have all the printers in a single location.

Monday morning the pet sitter let me know the cat was peeing blood. From outside the state I managed to get help to get him to the vet on Tues (Xmas Eve) and I jumped on a plane back home that same night. Thankfully it was just a UTI and now I know how utterly traumatic it is trying to get a cat to swallow a pill.
All that to say….don’t sleep on 2024. She’s still got some life left in her and can still blow up in your face.

As someone on an infosec CFP review board, aside from having a clearly written submission that follows the required guidelines...the second most important advice I'd give, SUBMIT EARLY. Please don't wait until the deadline because CFP reviewers are burnt out by then.

Your CFP reviewers are most likely reviewing talks as they come in during the window. And during that time they are giving the talks real attention. When CFP closes and there are tons to review, let's be real...getting through that backlog quickly is going to be the priority and that's not where you want your talk to be.

The CFP panel will rally and do the needful, but catch them fresh and not behind the 8 ball.

#MiniaturePainting Question:

When dry brushing on a large surface, to get those raised areas, do you use a small tipped dry brush or a large one? I ask because I want to avoid getting too much on the flat areas. It might be less about the size of the brush and the control and being deliberate about where/how I dry brush but figured I'd ask anyway.

Muchos thank you.

Yes I know about edge highlighting but that's not what I'm asking.

Good stopping point. Actually finished painting the Crimson Croc and was able to get started on the basing. I'm thinking I should be able to move the basing forward each night since it usually required things drying anyway. In preparation I made a Mod Podge & water concoction and put it in a 1 ML spray bottle for better control when I'm setting basing elements. (3 pics)

Then I get to have another all day painting sprint Wed - Fri.

Looks like #MiniaturePainting is back on the menu boys!!!

Therapist worked with me to convince me to put myself first and prioritize what will bring me joy. So there will be at least good back to back days where I can disappear into my hobby. She's also working to convince me that conditions don't have to be “perfect" to get some painting in.

I get caught up in that I need my entire setup with multiple days in a row in order to make it "worth" painting. I guess I don't always need 2-3 days of non-stop painting sessions in order to find my joy.

Today's hobby has consisted of seeing the pooling fucking mess the wash left on my mini's cloak. Using the techniques from the recent classes I took I actually knew how to correct most of it. I'm pretty chuffed by that.

I then had to go to the internets for a quick check on airbrush disassembly/assembly cause I could not get mine back together. Great success and now I will never forget.

So I'm 2 for 2 lyfe and winning at hobby lyfe.

Decided to delay with assembly to focus on painting again. I really got invigorated after #ReaperCon2024

I’ll be focused, for the most part, on the #GamblersChest #KingdomDeathMonster monsters for the rest of the year and I've even found all my reference photos already. They are all large models so will take time to finish each one. On the plus side, after taking classes at #Reapercon, I am more confident in trying new techniques. I am a hands on learner so no amount of watching videos was ever going to work for me.

This bad guy is the Black Knight from the Black Knight expansion. It's also the FIRST time I've been happy with how my airbrush priming came out.
