Right on Swaffhams doorstep, The Droves is planned for 2800 acres while High Grove is an eye watering 4000 acres. Thats thousands of acres of productive farmland about to be covered in panels, fencing , CCTV and substations directly hitting villages like Castle Acre, South Acre, Holme Hale, Bradenham, Necton and up to 20 others in the area. This doesnt even include the heavy construction traffic and driving routes that will hammer other communities for years!<br/><br/>I don’t blame the farmers one bit. They’ve been absolutely decimated by the family farm tax. Many have no choice but to take the solar money just to survive.<br/><br/>I’m not against solar. It can and should be part of the mix, but only as a smaller part of our energy infrastructure. Put it on rooftops, car parks, brownfield sites and industrial land, but not on our precious arable farmland that grows the food we need. <br/><br/>We’re one of the worst countries for solar because of our weather, yet here we are plastering it all over the best farmland in Britain, It’s utter madness! <br/><br/>Then there’s the battery storage units that come with these sites, which are huge fire hazards. Most of these sites won’t have proper direct access for the fire brigade if something goes wrong. The Ashill community recently went through a catastrophic fire, do we really want the potential for more catastrophe? <br/><br/>The hypocrisy of the loony lefties is off the scale. They scream about “saving the planet” while decimating our wildlife. Bats don’t like solar farms, studies show bat activity drops significantly in and around them. The transformers and inverters pump out a constant low-level hum that drives local residents mad and disturbs birds, bats and everything else living nearby.<br/><br/>The left love to claim “it’ll help the land recover”. Local farmers know that’s rubbish. The heavy construction machinery compacts the soil, destroys the structure, and after 40 years under panels the land simply won’t return to the high-yield arable condition we need for food production.<br/><br/>But the biggest joke? The same woke lefties who claim to “save the planet” are happy to import lithium-ion batteries whose raw materials are dug up in mines in Africa, mines riddled with child labour. Let’s not even start on the solar panels themselves, which are imported from China. The carbon emitted just shipping them halfway round the world is enormous. We’re told we have to be “greener”, yet we’re just exporting our Co2 to someone else’s balance sheet.<br/><br/>All of this is utter madness. Solar done properly? Yes. They didn’t have an answer; the only reply I got was that the current infrastructure needs upgrading.<br/><br/>I also asked, since the current Labour government is experimenting with blocking the sun, why are we taking away arable land when surely this experiment will reduce the effectiveness of these solar farms? Yet again, they didn’t have an answer.<br/><br/>We are continually being made poorer in the crusade of net-zero lunacy by any means.<br/><br/>Solar needs to be a smaller part of our energy production due to our climate being the fifth worst in the world for solar!<br/><br/>What I simply don’t understand is how this will make our energy bills cheaper when they have to run gas alongside wind farms for when the wind isn’t blowing.
