Be cool to see it in the original script. From the look of the decompiler it's definitely not a general purpose language (no surprise!). I imagine it was quite simple and they had a compiler of sorts to spit out the bytecodes.

The script system is a set of fixed events, and each event has it's own fixed parameters and an optional 'pre-event'. The code is a series of very specialised byte opcodes followed by a variable parameter list eg:

Seems one hasn't been updated since 2023 and output analogue video like the original chip anyway, but the other is in progress and part of a remade VIC-20 project.

I read at least two projects are underway to make drop-in FPGA replacements for the VIC1 6560 (and maybe 6561) chip in a VIC-20, giving native digital video out. Which is nice.

Got it working, must just have been a bad connection with the socket 🤷🏻‍♂️ After all that, the TF536 fouls on the keyboard so I’ve gone back to the original relocator which means the RGB2HDMI doesn’t fit 🤦🏻‍♂️ ISTR there were new RGB2HDMI recently so I’ll check those out.

Also, the black trapdoor expansion I had was actually 512Kb so I’m using a purple 1Mb one in the meantime.

The case closes properly now though 😁

Replaced the pin but it still doesnt boot. Not sure here. The board boots with a 68000, but not with either of the TF536 I have even on a different relocator. Only had half an hour so didn’t have time to investigate further.

I can just see “RC50” so it’s probably legit and I don’t think the card works with lower 030s anyway.

That’s all the bits I need I convert this A500++ to all black PCBs 🙃

Maybe I should consider a set of black keycaps as well 🤔😁
