About a year ago, we announced a hiatus on this project. Due to an outpouring of support, we pushed ourselves to continue, and over the last year, we’re proud of the interviews and roundups we’ve been able to produce.

But as events in the United States have continued to escalate and conditions have grown more dire, it’s clear that IGD does not have the capacity to meet the moment as a hub for grassroots reporting and journalism. In the face of this reality, we feel its important to be clear about our inability to continue, in the hopes that more people can push themselves to build and grow media projects and platforms.

We should all have a sober and clear-eyed view of what is happening. The current administration is attempting to consolidate extreme authoritarian power. People are being silenced and working-class people are being attacked. A police state is being constructed. Conditions are worsening. Inflation and prices are exploding and the entire country feels like it is slipping into dictatorship and economic collapse, as most people struggle to put food on the table.

As corporations and the State consolidate news into fewer hands and the far-Right pushes to silence those who speak out, the need for dynamic and vibrant grassroots media that amplifies working-class voices and gives a platform to social movements is needed now more than ever. We hope those that enjoyed IGD over the years can help in constructing new infrastructure that can help meet our present moment.

It has been one month since the NYPD & the U.S. government came after me, accusing me of setting fire to police vehicles belonging to the 83rd precinct in Brooklyn. According to them, $800,000 worth of damage was done & the charred remains of the vehicles represented a direct attack on the police.

Today, July 21st, I walked into the 83rd precinct & turned myself in. There's a real chance that I won't see the outside of a cell for years. but I make this choice clear of mind &, in a naive way, hopeful. It's a hope that comes from feeling loved & supported by my friends, my family, & my comrades that have rallied in support of me in wake of the accusations. It's a feeling that I cherish & will hold on to in the now uncertain timeline of my life. I'm 21 years old & I know it's normal to be unsure about life & the world, but I want to thank you-whether I know you or you're just meeting me for the first time now—for giving me some comfort in all this.

My charge comes with a minimum sentence of five years & a maximum of 20. The federal government has labeled me "armed & dangerous" & blasted a $30,000 bounty for my capture, which Zionist & white supremacist news outlets have happily supported in their racist doxxing & smear campaign against me. My home has been raided alongside two other addresses in New York City, & my little siblings had assault rifles brandished at them as they were harassed & forced outside.

I'm not, nor was I ever, scared. This scare tactic is nothing compared to other black people that are beaten &/or murdered, & their names being dragged through the mud as the media does damage control for the officers that did it. It's not new to Palestinians & Arabs that are being assassinated, deported, & harassed. I've met immigrants that live under daily paranoia. not knowing whether or not ICE goons will bust through their doors & kidnap their families.

I've been arrested 12 times before this, & doxxed & lied about by fascist press & police officers alike. I've seen friends & comrades lose relationships, homes, & jobs because of their refusal to be responsible for the genocide in Palestine & the kidnapping of migrants. The SCC61, the CUNY8, the Prarieland 11, the 2020 prisoners, Tarek Barzouk, Leqaa Kordia—all just a few current examples of the government's attempt to regain control. The use of COINTELPRO & its domestic warfare campaign that left hundreds of dead & imprisoned revolutionaries throughout the 20th century & now has caused a memory crater in our movement, where we don't know how to handle the brutality of State repression.

Repression is the State trying to call our bluff. It is intense because it shows itself when our potential to disrupt genocides & capital becomes too grand to ignore. Millions of people, whether they consider themselves revolutionaries or not, that participated in the encampments, the anti-ICE street rebellions, & the George Floyd Uprising have helped create a social crisis in the last five years that continues to bring in millions more & fuel the need for liberation.

The constant effort it takes the State to oppress us is not manageable. It is already breaking, with the funding & hiring disasters in federal agencies, the infighting between the Trump administration & his base, & the complete political catastrophe over Israel. The harshness of the State's eye on our movement is nothing more than a defensive reaction. a mask from their fear. This is as much of a make or break moment for them as it is for us. If we come out of this with our solidarity & our infrastructure intact, it is a monumental win for our communities & a devastation to our enemies.

Our greatest strength is each other-that we are not just coworkers maintaining appearances for the duration of a shift. We are comrades, & with that comes a promise to love, defend, & fight for one another. Because you are my comrades, I hold this promise towards all of you. I don't know what will happen now, but I do know that I will never stop fighting & I will do my best wherever I find myself to be.

"Johnson County Jail is obstructing the defendants’ access to legal representation and retaliating against them for exercising their 5th and 6th amendment rights pursuant to the U.S. Constitution. These constitutional violations have occurred in conjunction with a far-reaching investigation that has included numerous instances of excessive force and intimidation by various police agencies, friends and family of the defendants reveal.

A majority of defendants remain without legal counsel in violation of the 6th amendment. At least three defendants have been denied their requests for a public defender on the grounds of alleged “incomplete paperwork.” The DFW Support Committee, a group of family and friends of the defendants, said that, “this delay or denial of the right to counsel appears to be in retaliation to the defendants’ lawful right to refuse to speak to law enforcement without their lawyer present and is an egregious violation of their constitutional rights.”

In response to one of the defendants exercising their constitutional rights, Johnson County Jail has transferred this person to a solitary medical unit, despite the fact this person has no medical issues or needs. “I am completely appalled at the way their constitutional rights have been ignored,” this defendants mother said, “I grow increasingly concerned for their safety and well-being with each passing day.”

Johnson County’s use of segregation and isolation of pretrial detainees — presumed innocent until or unless convicted at trial — amounts to torture and excessive force used to punish and coerce these defendants in contravention of federal and state law.

Defendants’ friends and family report raids of their homes where agents deployed flashbang grenades, caused extensive damage, and detained spouses, family members and housemates without cause. In one instance, federal agents tackled the adult child of a defendant and put a bag over their head before arresting them and transporting them to jail. “I was terrified, I had no idea what was going on,” the child later said. During this interrogation, agents offered this person monetary bribes in exchange for information, which of course were refused. Police also attempted to extort them by offering to “get rid of a warrant” if they cooperated with the law enforcement investigation. "

In a GoFundMe, Yeseni Duran said her uncle Jaime Garcia, “was chased by ICE agents and we were told he fell 30 [feet].” In an interview with ABC 7, Garcia’s family confirmed he had broken his neck and skull.

Duran wrote that her uncle lived in Mexico with his family but worked in the US to help provide for them. “He was his family’s provider. They took one of our family members. We need justice. We are still investigating what happened. More details to come.”

In an expression of the massive anger the fascist raids have provoked among large sections of the population, less than 24 hours after the GoFundMe for Jaime was established it has already exceeded its $50,000 goal.

The UFW confirmed that several farm workers were “critically injured” during the raid and that “US citizens, remain unaccounted for.

Pointing to a massive government cover-up, the UFW reported that “Many workers- including US citizens, were held by federal authorities at the farm for 8 hours or more. US citizen workers report only being released after they were forced to delete photos and videos of the raid from their phones.”

New statement posted to legal fundraiser for those arrested in #Texas at anti-ICE rally:

"We do not know what happened at the Prairieland Detention Center on July 4th, but we do know that 11 people were arrested and still sit in jail without legal representation. The framing of the case by the federal government should be concerning to all of us. The glaring inconsistencies in the official narrative and the alarmist accusations are a clear attempt to bolster the Trump administration’s claims that the United States is on the verge of chaos, warranting a dramatic increase in militarized police action. This, in turn, will almost certainly be used as a justification for broader expansion of repression not only of popular movements but all political activity in opposition to Trump and his regime. As such, what is happening to the 11 people connected to the Prairieland Detention Center protest should be a concern for anyone who does not want to see this country descend further into authoritarianism.

The Trump administration has consistently shown that it lies and distorts facts to advance its political narratives. In particular, they created news and propaganda that seem to confirm the far-right conspiracy theories that have fed Trump’s rise to power. Time and again these narratives have been proven false and dangerous.

These 11 people are some of the first arrested under this unbelievable narrative, but we should expect this sort of repression to spread further and wider. Trump does not distinguish between these defendants, Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialists of America, 50501, or anyone else standing against him. They are coming for undocumented migrants, they are coming for supporters of Palestine, they are coming for those protesting ICE’s violence.

The first months of this administration have been a disaster. People have been kidnapped in broad daylight by masked agents and sent to hellish prison camps in other countries, with detention centers like Prarieland as stopping points along the way. Natural disasters have killed hundreds with little warning or care from the government, and even now we’re still trying to count the losses from flooding in North Texas. Decades of advancement in public health have being eviscerated: measles killed more children in Texas in the last month than in the last 30 years. Transgender people are being erased from our society. US-made bombs are slaughtering millions around the world. The list goes on. People see the nightmare that is unfolding, and the state is furiously looking for ways to distract, confuse, immobilize, and terrify. In this context, it should be clear that these recent criminal charges in Alvarado, Texas, are a dangerous and unconscionable stunt in service of this goal."

A lot of us, I think, have either lived in houses or know people who lived in houses with indoor pollution, like black mold. But people don’t generally think about what it would be like to be stuck in a room full of black mold, with nowhere to go.

Everything in prison is just incredibly intensified. Take extreme heat. Some people might think that not having air conditioning is, like, a first world problem. But try going without air conditioning when you can’t get out of the building.
