I just read "No, AI is not Consicous" by Ted Chiang. It struck me what I find uncomfortable about using LLM-generated code.

LLMs generate tech debt, but they also generate moral debt.

LLMs have no moral agency. They can't take responsibility. It's like working with interns. You can't expect them to know better.

How do you know good decisions were made? Who will take responsibility when tings break?

https://www.theatlantic.com/philosophy/2026/06/no-artificial-intelligence-is-not-conscious/687378/

#ai #aihype #philosophy

They do it because they can get away with it and it leads to more profit. The system is designed to shift costs onto consumers.

Where are you going to shop? The place that advertises $100 airline tickets or the one that advertises $200? The first will just tack on fees and taxes until it's $200, but they got you in the door.

It was all I could do to prevent features from shipping that would cause an outage in 6-12mo. Security was sometimes explicitly ignored.

That's certainly not how most start-ups treat it!

The whole SV start-up mindset requires ignoring liabilities as long as possible. Scale! Revenue growth! Headcount growth! More powerful AI! There's always an excuse to put off any threat that isn't immediate.

I hate having a Sword of Damocles hanging over my head. It's no wonder I clashed with leadership so often.

I'm also just loving all the links so I can see what else is out there and how everyone is linking to one another.

Next up: document all the things I discover on my own blog and start linking!

I found indieweb.org. Does anyone have any favorite #indieweb resources/posts that they can share? I'm interested in learning more about and getting involved in the non-corporate web.
