Today’s listening is ’King Of America’, the 1986 album by The Costello Show (featuring The Attractions and Confederates).

In other words, an Elvis Costello album (though he is called ‘The Little Hands Of Concrete’ in the list of musicians).

The text on this CD sleeve is so teeny tiny that even using a magnifying glass it’s almost too small to read!

Putting that to one side, this is a good album, the track ‘Indoor Fireworks’ being one of my favourite EC songs!

#ElvisCostello #NowPlaying

Today’s listening is ’Raising Sand’, the 2007 album by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

This is a terrific double album!

I am very much a fan of ‘later career’ Robert Plant and this is a great album of, for the most part, laid-back cover versions of songs on which the pair either duet or take it in turns to sing lead vocals.

The whole record has a very engaging sound also and it’s well worth a listen!

#RobertPlant #AlisonKrauss #NowPlaying

Today’s listening is ’Little Creatures’, the 1985 album by Talking Heads.

How all albums should be sequenced: start with a great song (‘And She Was’) and finish with a great song (‘Road To Nowhere’). Then all that comes between is forgiven.

This is a nostalgic album for me as seemingly all the cool kids were playing it in the halls of residence during my first year at University.
Clearly then, I was NOT playing it!

I have since learnt the error of my ways…

#TalkingHeads #NowPlaying

Today’s listening is ’#1 Record’, the 1972 album by Big Star.

The (not surprisingly, given it’s title) debut album from Alex Chilton, Chris Bell et. al., is excellent and would turn out to be influential for a whole host of bands to come.

It’s a mixture of ballads and a few ‘power pop’ rockers and sounds surprisingly modern, given that it is now more than 50 years old!

Big Star the band would sadly not last very long, but this record has stood the test of time!

#BigStar #NowPlaying
