To be clear, I am no expert, just an old soul with a little bit of experience.<br/><br/>My opinion is based on a lifetime of trial an error, so take it as you will. 😁<br/><br/>I personally believe that there are three main types of relationships, each working to varying degrees: Primary Partner Dominated; Co-Dependency, and Convenience.<br/><br/>Convenience is the one most likely to fail, as there is no real attachment, nor is much love lost when something goes wrong.It&#39;s easy to walk away from, as the relationship isn&#39;t built together - it is merely... Convenient, for both parties. Another way to put it, might be &#39;Casual&#39;.<br/><br/>A relationship dominated by one partner has a good chance of survival, as long as the roles don&#39;t change. One of the issues with this kind of relationship, is that people grow and change with time, and a once submissive personality might fight against the dominant personality, as it grows. If the submissive personality takes on dominant traits, they can of feel oppressed and misunderstood, leading to conflict. It&#39;s not wrong for them to feel this way, but change in power dynamics, will make both parties... Uncomfortable. If both parties are comfortable in their roles, great things can be achieved, but it&#39;s usually the vision of the dominant partner that holds sway. A good dominant partner will always try and take into account the needs and wants of both partners when trying to build a vision. Counterintuitively, the dominant partner will always seek the approval of the submissive partner, for accomplishing of goals. Look for phrases like &#34; Isn&#39;t it great?&#34; and &#34;Do you like it?&#34;. It&#39;s usually in reference to the dominant personality completing a goal that they believe will benefit both partners.<br/><br/>Co-Dependent relationships are most closely related to the democracy you mentioned. They have a very small chance of success (it is extremely difficult to have a democracy of two people) and when they do succeed, they go one of two ways: Shared Vision, or Shared Self Destruction. When there&#39;s a shared vision, there are few barriers to progress, and there is an abundance of mutual motivation. When there isn&#39;t, it can be the most damaging and destructive kind of relationship. It can lead to endless and vicious conflict, that will hurt both parties in ways that you may never have though of. When relationships like this break up, they tend to be some of the most explosive and harmful. Accusations fly, personal attacks are frequent, as each blame the other for their perceived failings. Personality flaws surface, and both are confronted with a broken reality. When a codependent relationship works, they act in unison, with exactly the same goals and methodology.
