I have a similar battery bank for power outages (mine has to run a CPAP machine, so it's pretty darn important).

The most important thing is to figure out what your load profile looks like, and size your backup unit accordingly. With this unit it looks like you'd get about 2-3 charges for a cellphone -OR- maybe one full charge for a laptop (all dependent on the actual phone/laptop model, of course).

Also, looking at some of those reviews... I'd stress test it the day I got it, if it were me. Charge it to full, run a few devices on it until the battery is empty, repeat a few times. Looks like a lot of failures based on the reviews.

Used this laptop as my primary/secondary machine, and it's been excellent. One of the last "bulky" laptops where you can actually get inside with normal hand tools and service things. There's a 1TB NVMe drive included, a second NVMe slot, and a 2.5" bay as well. Comes with 16GB of RAM, an Intel i7-9750H (6C12T 2.6GHz), GTX 1650, 1920x1080 display. I recently replaced the thermal paste so that should be good for another 5+ years. Cosmetically it's in great condition. Battery is in good shape, about 88% capacity, although you should have reasonable expectations about battery life (I get about 45-70 minutes on battery, depending on load). Full range of ports, including HDMI, DP, and an actual Ethernet port! Charger included.

Looking for $350, shipped in the continental USA. Screenshot shows CachyOS installed, but comes with NO OS (works fine with CachyOS, Mint, etc).

I currently run/moderate a discord server with about 120 members. I'm looking to move away from that platform to something I can host myself (or worst case, through a service). We use voice chat, text chat/channels, user roles, and media uploads. Desktop streaming and video chat is a plus, but not required. Ideally users could choose between browser-based, desktop, and mobile clients. I'd like to prioritize ease of adoption too, since most of these folks are long term discord users.

Heavily Modified Sega Game Gear

This was a super fun project which isn't quite completed, but close!

Basically, this is the original Game Gear shell and main board with a new display (BennVenn IPS LCD), Clean Juice power board (featuring USB-C charging and internal rechargeable batteries), and sound board (with crisper audio and all-new components). The main board has been recapped. Also included are seven games: Surf Ninjas, Ecco the Dolphin, Mortal Kombat, The Lion King, Primal Rage, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Wonder Boy.

Now, the bad: I would not consider this complete. The shell in particular still needs some cleaning, and the lens is pretty badly scratched. Some games you may need to power cycle to start (once started, the games run fine). The Lion King cartridge is probably bad, I can't get that one to work. I would not suggest picking this up unless you're prepared to tinker.

Asking $160 shipped.

Tube works fine, the color bars were generated with an HDMI-RF adapter but there's also an RCA input for your older systems. The case is in good shape overall, but feels a bit loose. I'm not sure if this is normal, as I have not torn this TV down for cleaning/repair. The antenna is broken off and missing, but hey - it couldn't pick anything up anyway even if it was present. I do not know if the 8mm player works, as I have no cassettes to test it with. The door may stick when trying to eject, it sometimes needs to be wiggled side-to-side.

Playing Baldur's Gate 2 on my Dell 5300 ($30 eBay find). I have to say, 8ish hours of battery life is a nice change compared to modern gaming!

Of course, running antiX as my OS and IceWM as my window manager helps a lot with that. This thing barely uses any CPU/RAM - even with the game going I'm staying under 800MB of RAM and 4% CPU utilization.

TWO moose today! That's double lucky!

I caught a glimpse of these two through my office window. They were wandering around the house, and I was quick enough to lean out the back door and snap a couple pictures. They already cleaned up most of the vegetation on the western slope, so they were heading to the still-fairly-lush vegetation on the south end of the property. That area is fertilized and watered by the septic runoff, so... circle of life, I guess?

Also standard warning: don't approach moose (especially if a calf is involved). The only reason I felt comfortable grabbing this shot is that 2/3 of my body was still inside the house!

Warm-to-hot is normal while charging or in use. Too hot to touch is not. If there's no charging or draw, the battery should cool off quickly (15 mins or so).

A metal can/jar/box ouside is a good move. Try to set your container on something non-flammable, or losely cover the container with something non-flammable.

Can't help too much on the recycling side, but most places that take things like paint and household chemicals can also handle lithium batteries. They're worth a bit, so recycling is usually free! Just keep them contained while they're in your car, and if you have a suitable fire extinguisher bring that along.

This fella has been hanging around the house lately, and he seems amenable to posing for the camera. It's wild how stealthy these giants are. I went out to grab something from the car and passed within 15' of him while he was laying on the septic field.

Of course I took these with a telephoto lens - DON'T approach wild moose! This guy is pretty relaxed but they can be violent and unpredictable.

My #GameGear project is nearing completion! Got everything put back together on my lunch break yesterday, and the system mostly works. Some games fire up right away, while others need to be reseated multiple times before they start working correctly (and even then, sometimes it takes a couple on/off cycles to get them working). I'm worried there might be something wrong with the cartridge reader, so figuring out how to test that is my next priority.

Once I figure out that last issue (is it the games? the console? both?) I'll look into cleaning up the exterior of the console a bit more. I'm really happy with the LCD, but there's not much point if the screen cover is all scuffed up! I do have some polishing gel which I've used to get out similar scratches before, but it may be better to just swap out the cover if there are good quality aftermarket replacement available.

Finished my #GameGear LCD upgrade today!

This involved removing the original LCD, backlight, and reflector. I then had to solder in the included ribbon cable. Lots of fiddly little connections, but it was pretty easy after tinning the ribbon cable and contact points on the LCD. The LCD kit is from BennVenn, and it's very well designed. It's also apparently the only IPS kit on the market.

Sadly, I lost one of the button membranes, but the console works at least! I still have some cleaning and modification of the case to do first, so I'll work on that while I wait for a set of replacement membranes.

Basically all of my parts are here, and I have a couple more games on the way!

Another day, another #CRT #television fixed! This is the Sylvania 6420FF that I saved from the dump last weekend. Did some diagnostic work and figured it must be the flyback transformer, and I was correct! The replacement came in today and I spent about 45 minutes swapping it in.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how decent the picture quality is, these aren't super high end screens but I snagged it because it was the only smaller screen with something besides composite (S-Video in this case). I was able to get it up into the loft to test with the #snes and was also pleased to see the screen geometry is spot on.

I was a bit nervous because the replacement transformer wasn't the same model, but it works fine. As usual, I failed to document things as thoroughly as I should have, but enjoy the few pictures I did take!

Also, I will likely end up selling this set. If anyone in the Boulder/Denver area is interested, let me know!
