This is what happened when I decided plants were more important than microprocessors.

These jewels are more precious than any of the hundreds of pages I've written or the boards I've soldered.

2026-07-13T06:29:12Z

Today's gardening job is to make a plant spray out of the leaves I've taken off my tomato plants. I mixed the leaves with water and will let them soak for a day or so.

The tea will be full of a-tomatine, which is the alkaloid tomato plants use to keep pests (like caterpillars) at bay. I'll spray it on the brassicas later in the week to stop the dreaded munching beasts.

Tip: If you want to make the tea stick to the leaves a bit better, add a bit of soap.

Things might be slowing down, but we still have the brassicas and some other hardy beasts growing. Aside from the romanescu, we have people broccoli, carrots, beetroot, kale, and some huge nasturtiums to feed us.

This week I'll plant the broad bean seeds, onions, shallots, and garlic. That should give us an early start for next year.

Important Announcement:
I have reactivated international postage options in my store for all locations *including the USA*.

http://www.lewis-workshop.com

I can't control delays in delivery, but I've done what I can to make things as smooth as possible.

Steps I have taken include:

1) Rigid cardboard packaging to help reduce postal damage.

2) International parcels will be sent with tracking if possible.

3) USA Tariffs are included.

As a small business owner, all boosts are appreciated.

Things are cripplingly bad at the moment. They're bad for everyone, I know that.

I'm tired, I'm ill, and I'm broke. These signs are pretty much my only source of income. If you're thinking about Christmas, please consider buying gifts in advance because the way things are going I'm not sure I'll be selling them much longer.

I'm sorry, I still can't ship regular orders outside the UK, because the world and postage costs have gone mad.

Home grown potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, leeks, and some very chonky looking baby corn. The fundament of a nice meal with some chickpeas, and crusty homemade seeded baguettes. It's nice to think almost everything here came from the garden (I was too late for onions and garlic this year). Next year, I aim to grow it all.

I may have accidentally veganed the whole thing, which is fine by me.

Yet another order sent to the USA has disappeared. This is why I don't ship there any more. That's another area almost ready to plant, just waiting for some rain to expand the coir. Once that's happened I'll dig everything over again to mix the manure and coir well into the existing soil before planting the autumn crops.

Chopping out the border along the fence, and thought it was important to stop and give you this tip while I think about it*: If you're lifting grass, cut the edges with a spade or lawn edging tool, and then cut the turf into manageable squares. Lift the grass with a fork, not a spade.

*Actually, I stopped because my hands have gone soft and I gave myself a blister. Shut up. Yes I've got gloves. They don't work when they're hanging on the back of the door.

What if there was a "NO AI content" certificate you could apply for your web pages, that was secure and could be revoked by consensus *somehow*, and then you could check the site from a browser extension and reject it if it didn't have a valid NOAI token? Absence of the token could be used like a filter in searches. Would that work? Is it an over simplistic dream? 🤔
