President Trump's financial disclosures yesterday showed that one big reason for his soaring income was a big payout from a UAE company. I hope that's not the reason he has been quiet about the UAE backing the RSF militia in Sudan as it engages in mass murder and mass rape. The RSF is now poised to overrun the city of El Obeid and massacre many thousands more people. Trump could avert these mass atrocities by insisting that the UAE tell its pet militia to back off. Will he?

Readers offered questions and pushback about my investigation into sexual assaults against Palestinians by Israelis. I appreciate the intense interest in my column. For skeptics, why not agree on Red Cross and lawyer visits for the 9,000 Palestinian "security" prisoners? If you think these abuse allegations are false, such monitoring visits would be protective. So why not?
https://bird.makeup/users/nickkristof/statuses/2053777719637463367

quoting
note1qtf…luxh

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opinion/israel-palestinians-sexual-violence.html?unlocked_article_code=1.hlA.kfgZ.ZMP5yQa7u9k7&smid=url-share

What was going through the minds of managers at Pornhub as they were sharing rape videos? Thanks to a court error, inadvertently making available thousands of pages of Pornhub internal documents, we now know. They show employees recognizing that there were videos of children being raped on the site but were not particularly concerned. They say that these child abuse videos had 684 million views. The company did remove obvious child abuse videos, but one said that obvious meant a 3-year-old. Here's my story, which I see as a window into a company's reckless pursuit of audience even as it destroyed children's lives -- and a reminder of why we shouldn't trust porn companies to police themselves. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/10/opinion/these-internal-documents-show-why-we-shouldnt-trust-porn-companies.html?unlocked_article_code=1.GE8.4Pr7.nCkXNWEw-dXW&smid=url-share
