Their AI can even register and join your community, and CAPTCHAs are not a problem. They are already exploring piggybacking off their apps — think Tor, but for Meta — and soon even consumer IPs will not be a safe bet.<br/><br/>Resistance is futile.<br/><br/>Locking down the Fediverse means people cannot know if your community is one where they will be welcomed until after they join — assuming you even have registration open.<br/><br/>If worse comes to worse, AI can simply launch their own Fedi site, joining the network, and scraping content by Federating. You can&#39;t stop aggressive scrapers from hammering your servers, because external actors ultimately dictate that traffic. Your only play there is defensive management — implementing rate limits, setting up bot mitigation, and bracing for the constant drain on your bandwidth.<br/><br/>On the flip side, your own codebase is entirely your domain. Leaving software un-optimized while external bots are already bleeding your system dry is like leaving your front door wide open during a neighborhood burglary.
