Thinking again about the tales of rebellion and defiance in The Silmarillion. The triumph of Beren…

outofangband:
Thinking again about the tales of rebellion and defiance in The Silmarillion. The triumph of Beren and Lúthien being shared throughout Beleriand, these stories are what inspires the collective forces to prepare for the fifth Battle, even if it ultimately fails. Húrin reveres Fingolfin for his injuring of Morgoth. Gwindor says that Húrin’s defiance of Morgoth is known, even in the depths of the mines.
Aerin knows of Túrin’s deeds as the Black Sword, knows that some lands have been won back and passage south may be safer. Stories of Aerin’s own defiance (and how she suffers for it) are shared quietly, at great risk, among her kin and perhaps eventually beyond.
Morgoth tries and fails to keep Húrin from seeing or knowing that Túrin killed Glaurung, just as he tried and failed to keep stories of his injuries hidden.
And though Morgoth slay the doer, he cannot make the deed not to have been.
Just as monuments to atrocities like the Haudh en Nírnaeth or Celebrimbor used as a banner are as much intended for the word to spread as they are spectacle for a specific audience, so too are the deeds of defiance.

https://outofangband.tumblr.com/post/832297890943844352

#thinkingagain #defiance #beren #morgoth #tales #hurin #stories #blacksword #aerin

#rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

If Túrin heeds Sador’s warning and leaves, Aerin and her kin are still left indefinitely in this horrific situation. If he tries to talk to Aerin quietly and they’re caught, she’ll be punished and the same kind of situation might escalate. Aerin is clearly exhausted and physically affected by the years of abuse she’s endured and she tells Túrin she will die in the wild if she goes with him. It is possible that the events in Brodda’s hall exacerbated her condition from the extraordinary stress and shock but even if that weren’t the case, something would have gone wrong.
There’s just no good outcome for Aerin and it’s so upsetting. And none of that knowledge makes Túrin’s cruelty and callousness towards her any easier to stomach

https://outofangband.tumblr.com/post/831749543525744640

#hurinnothing #heedssador #turinheeds #endingwell #children #aerin #anyone #like #know #brodda

#rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit
