Great interview Cody, this really got me thinking. It seems like many of us are no longer questioning narratives or thinking adversarially and we’re weaker for it.
I no longer think Bitcoin is a done deal and all we have to do is sit on our stacks and post toxic memes to anyone who disagrees with us.
I think there’s a lot of work to do and we’re a lot further from our goals than most Bitcoiners realize.

So with mandatory lock in for BIP110 in August is a chain split inevitable?
And the key factor is how many nodes run BIP110, is that correct?
What happens if 10% of the nodes run 110 and 90% don't?
Does that mean we have essentially a hard fork, as BIP110 nodes will reject any blocks and transactions that non 110 nodes relay or broadcast?
Is that two separate chains and two separate (cough, cough), tokens?

Thanks for the signal Chris, as always. Can you help us understand the game theory for BIP110 in relation to mining.
If they have very low hashrate (<10%) can this still cause a disruption and potential chain split?
My initial thoughts were that they won’t get a significant amount of hash so it will just die on the vine. But the proponents of 110 are talking like they can still force a counter fork if they have minority hash.
Maybe I’ve got this wrong so can you talk us through this pls.

I understand the encryption from my end to the model end, but I have a couple of questions about what happens next:
- Who hosts there models using the TEE?
- What happens to the data once it arrives at the model?
I understand these are open source models but I'd like to know who is hosting them and is there any way to know what happens to the data once it's arrived at the model end?
The TEE model is used by MapleAI (nprofile…uh5t) too and I understand that neither you (or Maple) can see the content of the prompt, but I'm struggling to understand how this applies to the people who wrote the code and run the model.

I’d like to hear your opinion on Open Source LLMs. If an LLM is Open Source, how much can we know about the security and telemetry of that model? If the source code is visible and we can audit it, can we be reassured of what’s being logged or used for training, or is it still a black box?
I’m having a debate with a friend at the moment, he says that LLMs are black boxes, even if they are Open Source.

There are lots of Bitcoin adjacent projects which we support because we want to, more for ideological reasons than practical ones.
But using PPQdotAI (nprofile…etsy) is not like that, over the past year here are my two practical, real world reasons for running PPQ and the value I've got from it.
1. Stopped using Chat GPT.
Protects my privacy and saved me $20/month. For my general non private queries I moved from Chat GPT to the PPQ web interface. It gave me access to lots of models, including the latest releases of frontier models. Offers better value, you only pay for what you use. This can go both ways, but at least you know where you are and don't just suddenly run out of tokens or get downgraded to a slower model.
2. Stopped using Cursor
Same as above, I had a KYC account tied to a fiat payment method, so Anthropic and Cursor could know exactly who I am and what prompts I issue. So I found myself guarded and very careful about what I put in there. So I moved to Cline and connected to PPQ using my API key.
Using Cline is very similar to Cursor, but I had to give no personal information and my connection to the LLM is protected by a VPN and the anonymity of paying with Lightning on PPQ.

I still don't put personal information into Cline or PPQ, but can talk a bit more in my prompts in general terms.

I'm just a Bitcoiner with an interest in Open Source software and AI, and have found PPQ.ai to be one of the best tools in the space.

Give it a go for yourself.

Yes, in a positive way. I am self employed and take care of clients’ website and e-commerce infrastructure.
AI allows me to do way more than before. An example is testing, I use AI to write scripts to automate testing, saves me hours each time.
AI helps me troubleshoot issues on tools I have very little experience with.
And this is just the beginning, I haven’t even gone deep into the Agent world yet.
AI is going to disrupt and create opportunities at the same time. It’s up to all of us to make sure we’re in the right place to benefit.

Why don't you double down on quality educational content for people in Bitcoin like you used to? When I came into Bitcoin I used lots of your guides, it was your tests of hard wallets and metal plate backups which guided me in my decision and I still use those tools today.

It's the core man, it's the core. Think of your body like an OS that needs to be in balance, apply your analytical mind to it. Learn that your core is the kernel that everything is connected to and that is what you must address first.
I had the good fortune to have some minor neck and back issues in my early 40s and it caused me to learn about my core and balance.
I now do core exercises twice a day, practice sports like yoga, pilates and swimming, and have had zero back, neck or allignment issues for over a decade.

I also have a serious question for you. I recently listened to an interview with the Samurai wallet dev who has been sentenced to 5 years prison for writing open source software.
In the interview he talked about how his constitutional rights were not respected and how hostile the judge was.
They had no evidence of an actual crime being committed, so the charges are for “conspiracy” to commit crimes. Basically, as they were “aware” that their software could be used for illegal purposes, they’re guilty of conspiring to commit that crime.
This is pretty scary, does this mean any open source dev could be guilty of a similar crime?

I gave my nieces and nephews some Bitcoin for Xmas in 2022. Turns out that was a great time to do that, as it’s gone nothing but up since then.
I’ve gave them the same amount of fiat again last Xmas, and explained how it was now worth much less in Sats.
When I see them I check in and ask them how their magic internet money is going.
One of them is right into it, so I send him Sats and a quest to spend them at a local merchant.

I want Bitcoin to be money, so want to make that a reality. There aren’t too many merchants who accept Bitcoin around me, but not zero.
I pay for my haircuts and always support cafes and restaurants who accept it. If I find a merchant who accepts Sats in a place I visit, I make a point of going there and spending sats.
I also pay for as many online services as I can in Sats: Proton, Mullvad and ppq.ai are examples. And boosts of course! This is how I do it.

What do I think of BIP444?
If you’re interested, read the original BIP, understand it properly then make your own judgement. Too many Bitcoiners are just listening to their favorite influencer and picking a side to support.
The BIP makes no reference to a decision being made to determine if arbitrary data is objectionable. The BIP lists 7 Op Codes or conditions which would further restrict arbitrary data at the consensus level.
I think Matthew Kratter picked that ball up and ran with it himself for some shock value.
This BIP seems unlikely to have legs, but if we’re going to debate it we should at least understand it properly.

If I'm not mistaken, BIP444 proposes having a council or group of people making decisions on what is "troublesome content". Is that correct? And do you support that?
And is the method of invalidating transactions to invalidate the entire block? If so, what about all the other transactions in that block, what happens to them?
To me, this sounds like everything we're trying to avoid in Bitcoin, arbitrary decisions on what is permitted and what is not, made by a select group of people.
But please convince me otherwise if I am not understanding this correctly.

You got way longer than 6 months. Bitcoin Core supports the previous two versions, so once 30.0 is out, they're still supporting 28 & 29 but just because they're not supporting it doesn't mean you can't run it.

You will have to upgrade in 2106 though, that's a given due to the time stamp issue, so be ready for that. 😉

You’re the Linux guy so asking you to do it on another platform would be blasphemy!
I was a Bitcoiner before getting into Linux and other open protocols. I really think Bitcoiners should embrace the full open source stack, it’s part of the trade off for having open source, immutable money.

About node setups and security:
I started with a Raspiblitz about 3 years ago, this was a great first node if you want to learn the more technical side of running a node as it packages everything up and has a very simple GUI but also allows you to use the command line as well. It runs over Tor by default, so gives you that extra layer of privacy.
Two years in I started running Bitcoin Core directly on an Ubuntu server, which in many ways is simpler than the Raspiblitz once you get used to doing everything in the command line. You’re running way less services, just what you need: Bitcoin Core, Fulcrum Server, Mempool.space and Tor.
I went on to run a Lightning Node a year later and am still going strong, using that to route all my payments. Both my Bitcoin node and LND run over Tor, which for personal use (not routing on Lightning) has been good for me.
I followed the guides on the Ministry of Nodes You Tube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@MinistryofNodes) , Ketan is a well known Aussie Bitcoiner and a big open source and Linux guy. His guides are excellent.
Next step is to connect Alby Hub to my LND node, so I can route my own boosts on Fountain.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Samurai and Tornado Cash developer trials. These aren’t getting anywhere near as much coverage as the Treasury Companies and Stablecoin regulations but there are some concerning developments in these cases which could have effects on the development of all kinds of Bitcoin applications.
I also saw a report on the Rage summarizing the privacy measures the White House are asking FinCEN to deem as money laundering concerns and they cover lots of general uses all of us would do regularly.
Would love to hear your thoughts on these, considering your background in both Bitcoin and the FOSS space. Thanks.

Issues with fountain_app (nprofile…cgkr)
I've been using Fountain as my go to podcast player for at least 2 years and love it. But after recent upgrades I've had persistent issues and it's getting close to being unusable now.
I'm on iOS and am experiencing the following issues:
- Each time the screen goes off on my phone the podcast will stop playing. What I mean is that whenever my display goes dark if I'm not using the phone the podcast stops playing. It only happens with Fountain, not with other audio apps like Spotify. It used to rectify if I shut the app and restarted, but this no longer works.
I have had to resort to restarting my phone, which worked or a while but now is not working either.
This is a persistent issue now and I'm close to ditching Fountain because I can't listen to podcasts anymore, so wonder if anyone else has had this issue or if Fountain can offer any solutions?
-The second issue is that after a recent upgrade my headphone controls no longer work on Fountain. I used to be able to pause or restart a podcast by tapping the button on my headphones, but this doesn't work anymore. I can do it on other audio apps but can't stop a podcast with the headphone pause button now.
-Last issue is the the podcasts in the queue don't autoplay. It seems to happen after I rearrange the order of the episodes in the queue, whenever I do this they don't auto play.

The main issue I'd like to resolve is the player cutting out when my screen goes to sleep, this means I can't listen to podcasts while I'm driving or walking. And we all know there's no life for Bitcoiner's without pods.
