It will end when there are a bunch of court cases and the judges throw them out; or it will end with PA win their legal action challenging Cooper’s proscription of the organisation. @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us has moved (npub12pw…zvxn) posted two opinions from the Observer this morning - one is Cooper’s defence; the other is PA’s defence. Both are well worth reading - no paywall.
In the meantime the cops are not looking good, nor is the government - those racists harassing people in immigration centres are not being challenged, and in some cases are actually getting into the centres to broadcast more partisan lies about the occupants detained there. Why is yet another layer of surveillance even deemed necessary? I’ve just read a report when someone at a racist protest was briefly detained and then given a ‘community order notice’. It seems to me the fash are being treated very differently than people carrying a poster and not endorsing violence in any way. It would not surprise me at all to hear that another Trump has been appointed his successor; JD continues to be the VP, only stepping in occasionally to support his boss. That David Lammy had a whole article in media about how he bonded with JD because of their dysfunctional childhoods is chilling. JDVance is coming to the Cotswolds some time during August on a ‘family holiday’. How many meetings will he have with various ministers and interested businesses while here? SCOTTISH Labour have fallen completely silent on their support for NHS nurse Sandie Peggie after a series of her racist and transphobic remarks became public.

Anas Sarwar, his deputy Jackie Baillie, and other parliamentarians in the group had given their full backing to Peggie amid an ongoing employment tribunal, sparked after the nurse was suspended following allegations of bullying and harassment against trans doctor Beth Upton.

Peggie had taken issue with sharing a changing room with Upton at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife, on Christmas Eve 2023 – and later lodged a complaint against NHS [[Fife]] citing harassment related to a protected belief.

On Monday, the tribunal heard that Peggie had made a series of transphobic and racist remarks, including referring to Upton as "weirdo", "freak" and "it".

It further heard that she had shared a series of racist jokes about Pakistani people and Muslims to a group chat, including mocking the victims of floods that killed thousands in 2022, saying the country would look like a “bowl of coco pops”.

Other so-called jokes shared by Peggie to a group chat said “I bet little Mohammed isn’t having to walk 3 miles to fetch water now” and “the Queen … wanted to mention that Britain has plenty of spare P****”. She was also accused of using the racist slur “Ch***”.

Scottish Labour politicians including MP Melanie Ward, MSP Claire Baker, and MSP Carol Mochan had all spoken out in support of Peggie in the seven days before her racist comments were made public.

All three failed to respond when approached about Monday’s tribunal hearing.

Sarwar and Baillie had told the Holyrood Sources podcast earlier in 2025 that they supported Peggie in the tribunal – at the same time as they U-turned on support for gender reform.

Neither their Scottish Labour nor UK Labour responded to repeated requests for comment on Monday’s tribunal hearing.

The Scottish Conservatives, who have equally been vocal in their support of Peggie, also failed to respond when approached.

Jess O'Thomson, the community outreach lead for Good Law Project, said: "The comments alleged to have been made by Ms Peggie are plainly obscene.

"These Labour politicians should consider how they have ended up championing the side of bigotry against vulnerable minorities.

“It is surely a shameful position they have found themselves in."

Edinburgh-based trans rights activist Tristan Grayford said that [[Scottish Labour]] politicians appeared to believe that “being transphobic is more important than standing up to racism”.

“I think what we're seeing from Scottish Labour politicians is atrocious behaviour,” he said.

“They're basically attacking our NHS for daring to have any kind of limits on whether or not someone can be unpleasant to a colleague based on transphobia.”

Grayford said the issues extended beyond politicians, telling The National: “Yes, the racism is horrific, but the fact that we as a society, and especially a lot of our media, treat that kind of language to trans people as just normal, as something that should be defended and even promoted, is a horrifying indictment of how normalised transphobia has become in our media in a way that they seem capable of seeing that racism shouldn't be.”

On social media, Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie (above) shared a post reporting some of Peggie’s comments about trans people – as well as allegations she had said she was minded to post bacon through the letterbox of a mosque in Kirkcaldy.

“This is the person Scottish Labour is lining up to defend, and who the entire [gender critical] movement has turned into their hero,” the post read.

Sex Matters, the anti-trans campaign group supporting Peggie in her legal case, have moved to distance themselves from her comments on race.

Maya Forstater, the group’s chief executive, said: "Obviously, Sex Matters in no way defends the sentiments regarding the victims of the Pakistan floods, or remarks about a mosque attributed to her by a witness this afternoon.

“The content of private group messages, however unpleasant, do not change the facts at the heart of this case: that a female nurse is seeking justice after suffering discrimination and harassment because she didn’t want to share changing facilities with a male doctor."

Former SNP MP Joanna Cherry, a prominent gender-critical activist, was pictured shaking Peggie’s hand as she arrived at the tribunal on Tuesday.

Giving evidence, Peggie said she did not remember making the comments about the mosque and posting it bacon. However, she did say of the mosque: "I can't say I didn't like it, but I had a fear of it being built."

She admitted sending “offensive” jokes about the deaths of Pakistani people in floods, but said it was “dark humour”.

Peggie further admitted using the words “P***” and “Ch***”, but said that the Pakistani and Chinese people she knew had not taken offence.

The tribunal continues.

Someone I was mutuals with, and who shall remain nameless for now, has posted my bio over on BlueSky and they never asked me if this was OK. I’m not on Bluesky and have no intention of ever being there.
As a result I have removed my photo - I will replace it with something else in due course; and I have changed my settings here.
I was badly doxxed and stalked when I was on Twitter, and I never want to go through the hell I went though back there - ever again.
It seems that not only have they posted my bio over there, but done it in such a way that my entire timeline appears over there.
I’m shocked, feel a bit sick, and I’m very upset/angry about this.

It is vindictive, childish, and petty. It shows a government who refuses to listen to what its membership and its MPs are telling it; one that prefers an authoritarian approach. It is everything #Labour should never be. The big question is - will increasingly disenfranchised members remain in the party and grumble, or will they actually do something? Imo judge only is not the answer. There were Diplock Courts in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. A lot of innocent people got lengthy spells in jail then. Perhaps streamlining courts so there are specially trained prosecutors and judges for assault, rape and stalking cases and they are seen within (say) 15 months. Shoplifting and minor drug offences or minor public offences like urination, littering, alcohol in another specialised court: etc. there needs to be more courts and more judges and longer hours. This happens in other countries. The only winners in long delays are the perpetrators, never their victims. Making courts judge only suits authoritarian government like this Labour administration: it is a betrayal of our (admittedly imperfect) judicial system which requires a jury.

Farmers have been polluting forever - those nitrates and slurry spreading derogations; the poisons they use for raptors, for badgers, for foxes etc; the pesticides and insecticides on crops, some of which are used to just ripen cereal crops for harvesting; monocultures, drainage, and worst of all the inhumane and cruelly polluting and disgusting factory farms for cows, beef, pigs and chickens. If you know a bit about biology you will probably say that biological sex is caused by chromosomes, XX and you’re female, XY and you’re male. This is “chromosomal sex” but is it “biological sex”? Well...

Turns out there is only ONE GENE on the Y chromosome that really matters to sex. It’s called the SRY gene. During human embryonic development the SRY protein turns on male-associated genes. Having an SRY gene makes you “genetically male”. But is this “biological sex”?

Sometimes that SRY gene pops off the Y chromosome and over to an X chromosome. Surprise! So now you’ve got an X with an SRY and a Y without an SRY. What does this mean?

A Y with no SRY means physically you’re female, chromosomally you’re male (XY) and genetically you’re female (no SRY). An X with an SRY means you’re physically male, chromsomally female (XX) and genetically male (SRY). But biological sex is simple! There must be another answer...

Sex-related genes ultimately turn on hormones in specifics areas on the body, and reception of those hormones by cells throughout the body. Is this the root of “biological sex”??

“Hormonal male” means you produce ‘normal’ levels of male-associated hormones. Except some percentage of females will have higher levels of ‘male’ hormones than some percentage of males. Ditto ditto ‘female’ hormones. And...

...if you’re developing, your body may not produce enough hormones for your genetic sex. Leading you to be genetically male or female, chromosomally male or female, hormonally non-binary, and physically non-binary. Well, except cells have something to say about this...

Maybe cells are the answer to “biological sex”?? Right?? Cells have receptors that “hear” the signal from sex hormones. But sometimes those receptors don’t work. Like a mobile phone that’s on “do not disturb’. Call and cell, they will not answer.

What does this all mean?

It means you may be genetically male or female, chromosomally male or female, hormonally male/female/non-binary, with cells that may or may not hear the male/female/non-binary call, and all this leading to a body that can be male/non-binary/female.

Try out some combinations for yourself. Notice how confusing it gets? Can you point to what the absolute cause of biological sex is? Is it fair to judge people by it?

Of course you could try appealing to the numbers. “Most people are either male or female” you say. Except that as a biologist professor I will tell you...

The reason I don’t have my students look at their own chromosome in class is because people could learn that their chromosomal sex doesn’t match their physical sex, and learning that in the middle of a 10-point assignment is JUST NOT THE TIME.

Biological sex is complicated. Before you discriminate against someone on the basis of “biological sex” & identity, ask yourself: have you seen YOUR chromosomes? Do you know the genes of the people you love? The hormones of the people you work with? The state of their cells?

Since the answer will obviously be no, please be kind, respect people’s right to tell you who they are, and remember that you don’t have all the answers. Again: biology is complicated. Kindness and respect don’t have to be.

Note: Biological classifications exist. XX, XY, XXY XXYY and all manner of variation which is why sex isn't classified as binary. You can't have a binary classification system with more than two configurations even if two of those configurations are more common than others.

Biology is a shitshow. Be kind to people."

He’s indefensible, because he and the party flat out lied to everyone. Voted for in slim numbers because a great many people already saw through Starmer, and those that did now feel very betrayed. His articles in media like The Sun, his recent Enoch Powell speech, his reversal of all environmental policies, the parties acceptance of millions in ‘donations’ is sickening. As for his complete betrayal of human rights - that really is the bridge too far. Whether he’s cancelling the very existence of trans people, or pronouncing peaceful action as terrorism - it’s the opposite of everything Labour ever stood for. The populations in so many countries are deeply upset about all this, but when they raise objections or protest peacefully they are being arrested, criminalised, and in some cases their association is being proscribed as terrorist. You only have to look at what ICE are doing in the USA, and what Starmer/Badenoch are doing and saying in the UK to see this. Germany is by no means innocent in this either. Our governments are ignoring the voice of their peoples and enforcing a very dangerous agenda. In the end it won’t protect those in the governments, as history has repeatedly shown.

There are laws criminalising women for making choices concerning their bodily autonomy.
There are laws about only using a birth name for voting records which again will affect women.
Now there are laws against trans people, the medication and treatment they can no longer have.
To date, I have not seen a single law curtailing the rights of any men, especially Caucasian men.
