A few months ago, I resigned from my job as a senior support technician at Dell Technologies because I refused to continue selling my labor to a corporation complicit in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.

Now that I’ve settled into my new life, I want to tell my story.

When I saw employees rising up in a worker intifada against other tech companies involved in Israel’s crimes, I felt I had to act too.

My experiences in the West Bank demonstrated how determined Palestinian families are that their children are well-educated. Children often have to be escorted to protect them from stone-throwing settlers; their schools are frequently invaded by the IDF and their teachers harassed and sometimes arrested. There have been numerous demolitions in areas where settlements are expanding. We have all seen what the IDF has done in Gaza to schools, colleges and universities. Not collateral damage; education is a threat.

And yet the children, the students and their teachers continue their struggle against all the odds, achieving remarkable standards.

I recall a twelve year-old boy reading me his poem; it was in English.

We have heard from the Gaza Media Office that about 288,000 Palestinian families are suffering harsh weather conditions as Israel continues to restrict the entry of humanitarian supplies, primarily the entry of much-needed makeshift tents.

The humanitarian crisis is really spiralling out of control. Civilians in Gaza need, according to the media office, about 300,000 tents and mobile houses to house hundreds of thousands of families who have been badly impacted by the rain and flooding. They live in heavily damaged, dirty and flooded tents. Many are left stranded without any shelter.

That’s why some families have taken refuge in already overcrowded shelters, while others were trying to find refuge in whatever is left standing in Gaza City or in the south of the Strip.

The media office has called the US president to exert pressure on Israel to uphold its commitments to the ceasefire agreement, especially when it comes to the implementation of the humanitarian protocol.

'Het gebrek aan daadkrachtig optreden van de Commissie en de Raad tegen Hongarije heeft geleid tot een voortdurende uitholling van de democratie en de rechtsstaat', stelt de Nederlandse Europarlementariër Tineke Strik (GroenLinks-PvdA), die namens het Europees Parlement rapporteur voor Hongarije is. 'De EU kan de autocratisering van Hongarije niet laten voortduren.'

Het Europees Parlement heeft in 2018 al het artikel 7 voor Hongarije in gang gezet. De lidstaten praten er al lang over, maar hebben daarover nog geen besluit genomen. Al langer wordt er ook geklaagd over het afbreken van de Hongaarse rechtsstaat. Premier Viktor Orbán helpt daarnaast allerlei naasten in het zadel op belangrijke posities."

Year of settler violence has changed landscape of occupied West Bank

Having been absent for a year, I almost didn’t recognise the road from Jericho to Ramallah. Entire communities in the Jordan Valley, Bedouin communities, have disappeared. All I saw was what remained of their homes and barns. They were torn down and burned by Israeli settlers.

I did see several young Israeli settlers, armed, taking over the land, putting up fences to mark their new claimed territory, setting up an outpost with an Israeli flag. When I tried to pull out my phone and take pictures or capture this on video, the driver I was with asked me not to do that because he didn’t want to be marked by the Israeli settlers, who roam the area freely and who can call the Israeli army. He lives in the Jordan Valley, and he feared retribution.

So really, it’s quite remarkable in the span of 12 months how much has changed and the freedom with which Israeli settlers roam.

While Netanyahu now has to play nice with Trump and adhere to the ceasefire, as far as Israel is concerned, in the occupied West Bank, the agenda of this government is of taking over land, of allowing settlers to not only take up more arms, but to use them quite freely and to assist them by deploying the Israeli army.

There's more than one reason to celebrate a little in my opinion. Yes, there's some bad news about this election as well but let's see.

One : The biggest party D66 has a preference to go in a cabinet with the biggest left-leaning party which means that there's a possibility for a significant change compared to the current really terrible awful fascist-leaning and unstable cabinet.

Two : The party leader of D66 has spoken out several times against PVV Wilders fascist-leaning party. Several parties also ruled out working together with Wilders.

Three : The party leader of D66 who is likely to become prime minister is openly gay. This would be the first gay prime minister in NL. I consider this a good development for more tolerance (rather than Wilders's hate and division and picking on minority groups).

Four : Now that Wilders/PVV is not again the biggest party it will prevent the Wilders dream of becoming prime minister. In the current cabinet Wilders was not allowed to become prime minister, and it appears Wilders is frustrated about this. Now the initiative is with D66. Wilders can continue to try to distract but is not in the driver's seat.

Just my 2 Euro cents.

A legal group has applied for a court summons to prosecute a British-Israeli who allegedly served in the Israeli military, with an initial hearing expected in the coming weeks.

Court documents submitted on Monday by the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP), seen by Middle East Eye, detail alleged violations of the Foreign Enlistment Act (FEA).

The entire northern part of the Gaza Strip has not been receiving any aid trucks over the past 10 days.

The crossing on the northern part of the Strip has been blocked for more than 50 days now – close to two months of ongoing blockade.

So, whatever’s available in the markets now, people are eating the stuff that’s on commercial trucks.

We did walk around and check some of the markets, and we asked every single vendor where they are getting their items, the products, the fresh produce from, and they’re getting them from business owners and traders who were approved by the Israeli military to allow in some commercial trucks.

But they were only allowed to sell in the central and southern parts of the Strip. They’re just allowing a trickle of these items and products into the northern part of the Strip.

Er staan zoveel huizen, kantoren en winkels in Nederland leeg dat alle inwoners van de stad Utrecht erin zouden kunnen wonen. Dit blijkt uit een berekening van het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek en het journalistieke platform Pointer (KRO-NCRV).
In totaal staat er 17,8 miljoen vierkante meter aan panden structureel leeg, meldt het CBS. Er zit al zeker een jaar geen bewoner of huurder in. Ook wordt er geen of nauwelijks energie afgenomen in deze gebouwen.
Al die leegstand bij elkaar, is evenveel oppervlak als 200.000 standaard nieuwbouwappartementen. Dat zou genoeg plek bieden voor alle inwoners van Utrecht (377.000). Zonder te proppen, zegt het CBS erbij: zij hebben dan evenveel ruimte per persoon als stedelingen nu gemiddeld hebben.

Aid trucks are trickling in but are only limited to the central and southern parts of the Strip. We’re not seeing much in the north. There is a key factor limiting the entry of aid trucks into Gaza City: the destroyed infrastructure.

There are no roads here. For us, driving around it is very hard. It takes a long time simply because there are no roads left. The Israeli military has destroyed every essential storage warehouse, so even if aid trucks get in, it will be extremely difficult to store it.

The eastern side of the Strip is controlled by the Israeli army. Soldiers have moved to a line demarcated by the ceasefire. People are staying away from that area because it’s very dangerous with quadcopters, tanks and armoured vehicles deployed.

Earlier, people who tried to go to their homes in the east of Gaza City and in southern Khan Younis were shot and killed by Israeli troops. At least nine Palestinians were killed despite the ceasefire.

😨 Police arrest 205 people at Gaza-support protest around Hague Central Station

The Hague police arrested 205 people at a Gaza-support protest at Den Haag Central Station on Thursday evening. According to the police, the protest had a grim atmosphere, and activists were guilty of “transgressive actions” that could “harm the interests of others.” One detainee is suspected of insulting the police and using violence against officers. One officer was injured.

For comparison, during violent far-right riots in The Hague on September 20, in which rioters set fire to police cars, blocked the A12 highway, sought confrontations with the riot police, and attacked political buildings, the police arrested 37 people.

Israel’s interception of Gaza flotilla ‘a grave offence’, says South Africa

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa says Israel’s capture of boats from the Global Sumud Flotilla is a “grave offence” against “global solidarity and sentiment that is aimed at relieving suffering in Gaza”.

Ramaphosa called on Israel to immediately release South Africans on the flotilla, including anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela.

“South Africa calls on Israel to ensure that the life-saving cargo transported by this flotilla reaches the people of Gaza, as the flotilla represents solidarity with Gaza not confrontation with Israel,” he said.

“My thoughts are with all of the abductees and their families and it is my expectation that Israel will release the human rights activists as these abductions serve no purpose in the context of efforts to secure peace in the Middle East.”

Italian trade union CGIL threatens general strike over possible Israeli attack on flotilla

The leader of Italy’s largest trade union, the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), has said they’re prepared to begin a general strike in the event that the flotilla is attacked by Israel, Il Messaggero, the Rome-based Italian newspaper, reports.

“In the face of a potential blockade, seizures, arrests – and I hope to stop there – we are ready to proclaim, in a timely manner, a general strike involving all workers, female and male, from all public and private sectors,” said Maurizio Landini, leader of the CGIL.

“An act of that nature in international waters would be an act of war against those who wish to carry out a mission to reaffirm peace,” Landini added.
