Whoever installed that inline fuse holder, which serves as a safety between the positive battery terminal and all electronic components in the vehicle, and who I sincerely hope wasn't actually the manufacturer, did not bother to either crimp or solder the joint, but merely twisted it together and put some heatshrink tubing over it. I love having random bare positive terminals floating around all the exposed ground planes in the engine bay!

Just observed something cool on my phone (Pixel 8a): the camera flash LED apparently continued faintly glowing for several minutes after I'd stopped using it to see in the dark. I thought that perhaps power was leaking to it after I powered the phone down and saw it STILL glowing, but then I powered up and briefly toggled the flash, and noticed that the glowing was brighter and oranger thereafter. This is some kind of phosphorescent doping on the LED module that is pumped by the diode! I'm guessing the point is that it fluoresces in another part of the spectrum to add some warmth to the cold native flash color. Once charged up, it continues to emit for a while after the pump is switched off, like a glow-in-the-dark geegaw.

I just think this kinda shit is super neat, especially when it catches me by surprise like this.

I have a fairly robust risk appetite, but rooting a device to install a closed-source fork of Magisk that hides itself well enough that I can spoof Play Integrity so my bank's app will run is a few steps too far in the wrong direction. So choose what you prefer: access to your money, or some amount of control over your digital leash.

I see no way forward after September that doesn't involve having two phones: one that mostly lives at home for the applications that absolutely won't run without maximum verification, and one for daily use. At that point, I might as well get a used iOS device for the banking stuff.

I haven't tried this on uSD, but I have on SSD: you may be able to get away with simply under-provisioning the card by using a total of one-third or one-quarter the device's total capacity, causing the device to only write one bit per cell. If you see different write speeds for partitions sized totalling whatever factor accounts for writing one bit vs more bits per cell, then you're effectively operating in pSLC mode without needing to mess with the storage device's firmware.
