Thank you for the welcome!<br/><br/>Lane&#39;s Lexicon is nice because in large part it quotes classical and later Arabic dictionaries and translates their entries into English.<br/><br/>So sometimes I come across a section in Taj al-Arus or Lisan al-Arab that&#39;s harder for me to parse, and I can go to Lane&#39;s Lexicon, and he has it there translated. Or, at the least, you&#39;ll find translated excerpts from other classical dictionaries treating the same term.<br/><br/>To compare with the Doha Dictionary and Al Mojam, they don&#39;t engage so transparently with the classical dictionaries like Lane does (that said, at times their definitions can be a lot clearer and easier to understand).<br/><br/>But if you want to answer: how was such and such term used historically over time? Was such and such term pre-Islamic or a post-classical coinage? in that case, these dictionaries are your resource.<br/><br/>So, for example, citing the Doha Dictionary, I can see that one of the earliest uses of the term &#34;الاقتصاد&#34; to refer to &#34;economics&#34; was in 1834 by a certain al-Tahtawi:<br/><br/>المادة : قصد / اقْتِصَاد [مَصْدَر]<br/>1250هـ=1834م <br/>الِاقْتِصَادُ : عِلْمٌ يَهْتَمُّ بِأُمُورِ الثَّرْوَةِ مِنْ حَيْثُ تَكْوِينُهَا وَتَصْرِيفُهَا.
