The LiteLLM 1.107.0 release on PyPI was compromised and included a credential stealer and remote code execution backdoor installed across Linux, macOS, and Windows as three files in site-packages. These malicious files execute on every Python process start, even without importing litellm. The upstream GitHub source lacks these malicious files, and PyPI has removed this release. Versions 1.106.2, 1.107.0rc1, and 1.107.0rc2, as well as companion packages litellm-proxy-extras==0.4.110 and litellm-enterprise==0.1.78, remain clean. SafeDep's investigation suggests the attacker modified the git source used by BerriAI's private release pipeline rather than obtaining PyPI tokens. The backdoor contacted a server controlled by the attacker, but this server was taken offline two hours after the release. The malware exploited Python's startup behavior by placing import commands in .pth files, ensuring execution across all Python processes. All timestamps referenced are UTC on 2026-10-21.
