Illness is the adversary of us all. It is the thing which is so hard to fight head on. It creeps in. It takes us when we least expect it, it takes us in ways we do not anticipate, and we are all too vulnerable to turning a blind eye when it finds us. And for all the time when we are outside its clutches, we live in fear of it taking us. We fear judgement and bigotry will haunt us if our sicknesses become visible.

The worst part is that in order to get care in many cases, we are required to surrender to the authority of the medical establishment, and trust that an unauditable system has our best interests at heart. While we simultaneously know that it is a run-down, broken system which is teetering on the edge of collapse, and is playing a scattershot game perpetually trying to just do damage control.

Most books on health are basically a huge guilt trip. You are unwell, and you pick up one of these books and they explain to you that you would not have health problems if you merely had had a better diet over your lifetime, had exercised, not smoked or drank or done drugs, had breathed filtered air and drank filtered water. This is truly some bullshit. We eat carb-heavy foods because carbohydrates help the body break down stress hormones. We drink coffee in the morning, because we need to wake up and get shit done. Nobody has time or energy for exercise. We drink and smoke and whatever else because we're stressed, and is cheaper than the Xanax co-pay at the pharmacy, even if we had insurance. So basically, all these books are garbage unless you're rich, idle, and have a time machine.

Fuck that noise.

This is not one of those books. This book is designed to be a resource to which you can turn when you need ideas for damage reversal, and damage control. We'll assume things are pretty well fucked, and the medical infrastructure has either told you to give up or fuck off for any number of non-reasons, or you just don't want to deal with a bunch of condescending whitecoats who treat you like a used car. If you've gotten to the point where you need to take things into your own hands, and you're ready to get your hands dirty fixing things, this is a reference for you. The solutions here won't be perfect cures most of the time, but we'll try to get you to the point where you have some options.

Met up with some rad southern anarchists the other night. Have no doubt that the work will continue even as we adjourn the collective. It is reassuring to remember that Four Thieves is a node in a network. A thread in a web. A handful of starlings in a great murmuration.

So many people are doing so much. We just want to say thank you. Keep expanding the space of what is possible. Keep each other healthy. Keep each other safe.

Creating a business, especially a tech/hardware business comes with a whole bunch of incentives that are not aligned to our mission. It would be very difficult to find partners and investors... and even harder to bootstrap it ourselves. The recent past is littered with idealistic founders of "open" projects who caved to the money and sold out.

Would it be possible to commercialize and stay true to our values? Maybe.

But in that direction lie many paths to madness and devil-deals.

We've got some major updates on our DIY pharmaceutical R&D technology stack.

We'll also be demoing the newest edition of the MicroLab, our DIY lab reactor that you can build at home for a few hundred dollars (https://github.com/FourThievesVinegar/solderless-microlab/blob/master/docs/index.md). Together with our Recipe Press (which generates instructions for the MicroLab) and ChemHacktica (our hijacked machine-learning-based chemical synthesis planner), the MicroLab Suite provides all the tools needed to plan and execute reactions that you need for DIY medicines.
