Even if Blackrock and Saylor hold a lot of it, I still don't get how this makes it any worse for those of us who acualyl hold our keys, run our own Core servers and like me also run an Alby hub or two. It might get somewhat centralized but if we do our thing as we should I just don't see a serious problem with the digital gold narrative or with Sailor.
I get you though but I just don't see it as real problem - looking from afar. What I mean by this, is that what Sailor is doing is imho just a minor thing of what is actually coming down the pipe if Bitcoin actually gets adopted by normies out there. Think about all the state actors, some of which will be definetely intent (if we only look down the futre long enough) on destruction and/or manipulation on such a high order this will look like peanuts in comparison.
What worries me is that if we think Bitcoin (or us - the comunity- for that matter) can't handle this, then I'm seriously afraid we're not even remotely prepared for what's coming. And it will come. And it won't be easy to just point to a guy then because it will be coming from all sides nonstop. What we have now... is so small.... sooooo incredibly small compared to what's coming.
Because look... with Sailor... we have a US citizen doing US cotizen things on the open and we already hav ea problem. Think how it will be when 1000s of Sailors coming from places like Pakistan or North Korea or Iran or some othe completely untouchable place (for us) that doesn't give one little piece of shit about what we think or how we feel about it.... That's where I see a real test coming.
I think we better prepare for it and do so with our proven work. We'll have to do our part. We'll have to run competions on how many servers we have in completely different places. Encourage people to do the same... Something... Anything... but just dooming our way furhter.

When he started proclaiming these weird things and started shilling the idea that it was UK who started WW2 because they were 'pro-war' or something, I went and looked at one of his past off-the-cuff speeches. Not written speeches, off-the-cuff speeches. And man oh man.. he clearly wasn't a moron then. Even if you completely disagreed with conservative ideology this wasn't a moron. It's like somebody just stopped using basic brain cells at one point. That's what I find so frustrating... he wasn't a moron. He was also one of the few people in his rich media environment that actually understood and could talk to a non rich normie and wouldn't just push bullshit abstract points carefully curated for the 'intelligentsia' . He could be uninformed or on a rare occasion he would go head through the wall on some specific topic that had very little evidence behind, but that was like 5% of his work. I could look past that because we all have weird quirks and beliefs even when we think we don't.
But this is entirely different. It's like he started questioning his beliefs ( iraq-war failure )and when one turned out the be wrong, his whole universe changed and he just did a 180 on every single thing - no matter the amount of proof or history behind it. Suddenly a story from one guy meant more than 10 million opposite stories just because that one guy was in opposition to the generally accepted idea. It's on par of learning physics and then one day seeing a guy who questions one equation and then concluding psychics is fake and therefore flat-earth hypothesis is correct. No amount of cameras on SpaceX clearly showing the globe, no amount of any astronauts or pilots or anyone else saying otherwise suddenly means anything.
It's that type of change.
And I'm starting to feel for the guy because I can't fathom any other reason but being deeply compromised somehow or something is seriously bad with his brain... like medically serious.
And don't get me wrong.... I'm one who changed my mind on many topics over the last 10, 15 years... I was forced to admit a bunch of unpleasant things about people to myself but it was based on evidence around me, on careful study of topics I previously took for granted. So.. I get the 'switching' - i have no problem there. But this is so clearly not evidence based and so against his own claims about the love of the country or even against his own children's future that I just don't get it. If you need to set it up, just start with something simple like Umbrel - you'll have a selection of prepared Dockerised Umbrel 'apps' at your disposal for an easy install. They have a whole Bitcoin category in which there's like 15 apps ready to be installed with pretty much a click of a button. That's actually how I had it set on my last computer (the one that then died).
All you need is like 1.6TB of space and the same amount someplace else as a backup. I didn't have the backup functionality enabled because I didn't have enough free space on my backup computer - and now I'll have work to get it all back. Otherwise.. it would be a click of a button.

but I don't believe in almost any of the drivel. My method is really simple though: I just look at incentives and I try to understand the science as whole, and not some small exception here and there which is supposedly proving things completely differently.
Why? Because I've seen the drivel that comes from focusing on single points and then 'explaining' everything else based upon it - even though other evidence dismisses it.
I think we have lost common sense in the sense that we look at one tree and claim it is the forest. I see this pattern everywhere I turn. Most things can be explained by simply using incentives as a vector pointing towards the truth.
Let me give you an example:
Remember Elon's supposed Hitler salute?
I do. I remember how bonkers everyone went and how 100% convicted a lot of them were that he indeed did a Hitler salute.
And I remember me posing a single question to a bunch of them:
Ok. Let's say you're right. Why? Why did he do it?
What profit would he have from doing this Hitler salute in front of cameras, knowing that the whole wide world would immediately attack him, people would run campaigns against him and his companies would suffer as a result?
Why would he, even if he was some kind of secret nazi, do this?

I never got an answer to this simple question. Not one. Everyone 'answered' by giving me innuendos, suppositions, some pointing out what he said someplace else which like totally proves and so on and on and on.
What is more likely, that his 'secret' nazism had to be 'proved' on a world stage for some unknown imaginary reason OR... that he's simply sometimes socially awkward weird genious guy?
I'd say this last option .. overwhelmingly puts the first one behind.
But... you see.. people still want to believe they're right. And they will seek ANY tree they can find to 'prove' that the whole forest is that tree. This simple act costed his company billions and this simple act costed him socially A LOT! I conclude.. there was absolutely no incentives for him to do it so... when he did it, he didn't even remotely see as anything to do with nacism - even though it looked so from our eyes. This exact thing happened to me today when somebody claimed my symbol here was 'nazi symbol' and therefore I was a nazi myself. And as soon as he said it.. I looked at the symbol.. and I saw the similarities that I never once before thought about. Not once! And as soon as I saw it, it ruined it for me - I had to remove it!
Now to make things even more disgusting: the symbol I was using was actually a symbol known for 1000s of years (and no, not swastika! I would understand if it was that), the same symbol drawn differently existed from Pythagoras, appeared in DaVinci's famous drawing and was one of the main symbols of the Renaissance. But... as soon as the lunatic revolutionary guy pointed at it and saw a nazi symbol, I saw it now as well! It looked similar to one of those symbols on WW2 tanks! But in reality .. it was a famous Square and Circle symbol of unification of Man and God.
See how horrible that actually is?
From the most holy symbol... right into the dirt with nazis... with one click!

And I bet that if I ask the guy now, he would still think I'm actually a nazi! It's now fixed in his mind.. He doesn't know history, but he learned about 20th century nazi symbolism and because he's probably a revolutionary he sees those everywhere.
So I had to remove it from my profile. The funny thing is.. I will now have to replace it with something else and I'll have to be careful not to make the same innocent mistake again. I'll have to intentionally dumb it down so I won't be seen as a fcking Nazi by ignorant millennials online! Nevermind by grandfather fight the actual nazis .. all that doesn't matter. What matters is the guy saw 'similarities' and that was proof enough for him.
And you know what really hit me here more than this? The realisation, that if there's one such guy, there's probably a lot more who just didn't say anything! They simply assumed I was a nazi because their who symbolic imagery in the head is from fcking Hollywood movies and nowhere else! It's fucking sad, man! It's really really sad!

But it is a good example of my point here is with the tree and the forest isn't it?
I could just call him MSM shill for it, but I bet he hates the media too and thinks media is idk.. 'nazi' or something. Once you start focusing on something, everything else starts to look like it and nobody, least me, will ever convince that guy he's not just utterly wrong, but he did himself a great disservice by destroying what could have been a glorious symbol of perfection, of union with God, of Samadhi, of Nirvana, of Heaven or of accomplishing every human's ultimate goal - self-realisation .. into the most disgusting thing ever.

SO before I change it, for people out there.. with a bit of brain cells left... who are still willing to learn a thing or two and not just react like a mindless trigger-warning machine, this is what the meaning of my symbol actually stands for:

The Circle Squared is a symbol of human attempt towards perfection. It's an old alchemical symbol, you can see it in Pythagora's PI ffs! That is the point of PI - it is a 'holy' number because it 'unites' the supposedly nu-unitable: the Square and the Circle!
You see in those times math wasn't separated from philosophy - math WAS philosophy because math was explaining our existance, our world, our connection to the Inner self - aka Creator aka 'God' if you want.
And that is what those symbols rtepresent: Circle is universe around us - because it's 'infinite' ever extending in 'circle'. The Square represnts the human. Why? Because it has 4 corners, that is 4 parts. And those 4 corners represent the 4 Elements from which everything is made from. They are now atomic elements, they are 'elements' in the more sensual sense. From the gross matter to the most spiritual one they go as: Earth (the gross matter), Air (the mind, the rationality), Water (emotions, fluidity) and finally Fire (which burns in highest spirtual sense). These 4 elements, this human of 4 elements is represented by the Square. And the state of perfection, a union with God, is the moment when the whole human (Square) is united with the universe ( Circle ) - Circle Squared.
Get it?

It's a profound deep symbol of final unification. It's what is called by different names as: Samadhi, Nirvana, Union with God, Union with Daemon, the Supreme Sphere.
In popular fiction you could just call it the transcendent state of 'Heaven'.

The symbol of human perfection - for each and everyone of us! The symbol serves as a direction, path towards meaning - the ultimate meaning we all seek for.

One would be tempted to say you guys are ... priveliged (being Americans) to such a degree you don't even realize what's in front of you and that it is rare and can be very temporary. I believed so as well for the first 5-10 years. Later, as I got older I realised it's in most cases just a mixture of ignorance, fear and uncertenty. Give you an example: when I first started experimenting I was still living in communist Jugoslavia and the attitude towards drugs was extremly negative because nobody and I mean nobody in authority had *any* idea that they actually functions very differently. They though heroin is the same as grass. It was complete ignorance and fear. Later when we transitioned to a half decent capitalist country and the politicians werem't just all drunk old Partizans from WW2 anymore the laws changed for the better and sentencings became much lighter and more sane. They started differentiationg between hard drugs and soft drugs like grass. Also the atitude of population changed dramatically over the last 15 years. Think about the fact tthat just 15 years ago there was zero legalisation progression in places like USA and that after 2 generations fighting for it for like 50 years prior. The reason wasn't 'racism' or even 'oil companies' as I was told repeatedly for years, but simply ignorance and fear. When you have just one word ( 'drug' ) for the whole set of completely different chemicals it's no wonder that people who don't experiment witht them to just imagine them all as 'bad' on the level of heroin or meth. What they see is a junkie on the street bothering them or worse. And they hear horrible stories which are also mostly true. When drugs come to town, the town usually goes to shits because 'drugs' in reality doesn't mean MDMA or LSD or psylocybine (I could go on ;) ) but 'meth' or 'heroin'. It's what people can see with their eyes.
What we should actually do if we want to make this right is to use different words for different types of substances. In the 60's 'psychadelics' was used and then mostly forgotten in the 80's. But in the 90's a better, more precise, word became popular: 'entheogens'. It's a perfect word for the type we're discussing here. If we used such clasifications regularly people outside of experimental circles would start to differentiate between them as well and from there it's an easy step to sane legalisation laws.

I can relate - on a smaller scale. I'm trying to fix what I see as a hole in desktop nostr, something I've been personally missing since I don't like to have my phone on all the time.
I want something that I can use for actual daily reading of articles and regular article posting, while also having other basic stuff implemented (like a connected wallet or background podcast playing) so I don't have to keepconstantly switching here and there and everywhere for them. I need basic zaping, basic podcast playing and fast swiotching between notes and thread-views and half the stuff is done already.
If one day I manage to also fix so I on't have to keepseeing obvioius "America bad m'kay" propaganda then I'll be a happy camper. Everything after that.... will just be a happiness bonus :)

oh man.. If you haven't tried LSD yet and MDMA was so profound for you, you'll be getting one deep ride there! Just be sure to have good conditions around - it is a must there and can make a difference between a truly spiritual experience you'll never forget in your entire life vs horrible chaotic mind-frenzy of the worst kind. In my case it was so profound I kept doing it every month for years, doing everything from meditation and pranayama techniques (because you 'get' the actual effects in real-time - if you have basic foundations covered of course...) to every possible raja yoga practice. It works incredibly well when you start understanding how it actually works. My wildest experiences were in natural caves or top of the hills during night-time, with very limited number of friends who were also well versed in it. IMHO it's by far the greatest drug ever conceived but also unfortunately, not for everyone (especially nowadays that so many have psychological problems). It's not a 'good-feel' drug, though it can feel great sometimes. It's more a sort of experiential soul-searching tool that can allow you to see the deepest hells and highest havens hidden in the core of what old Egyptians called 'our star' (the center of our being/soul that can for the lack of better words only be described as 'holy'). I could go on and on about this one for months, so let me just say this: unimaginable unforgettable true experience that, if properly handled allows humans to truly meet themselves.
One final note: the trip is long and should be taken as such by default, because that time is needed for us to absorb everything and then slowly... sloooowly come down to earth. Don't take downers to 'come-down' if at all possible. Go through it instead even if it might not feel always 'nice'. And don't fall for the idea that you can't fall asleep or something. Use that time instead because it's fucking precious. And once more.. don't do it just by the way. That is by far the most important - be prepared and have a lot of time at your disposal. You don't want finding yourself looking at a watch or something because it will fuck you up if you do.

That, alone, should tell you something. Think about that, for one minute. That is the same precise, illogical and glaring dichotomy we saw, right before the Soviet Union suddenly collapsed.

the quality is definitely not up in most cases. It *can* be theoretically up but practically it's not. At least not yet. I see it in my own work how easily it can fck things up and not care or just glance over something that is actually important but not considered so by LLM. For a whole day I've also been circling around nostr connection issues in my wrystr desktop client and he kept glancing over the problem because it would not show up all the time. As if a quarter of user's time having a bad expirence doesn't really matter when it generally works most of the time. So imho gigi is totally correct: idea to basic reality is awesome, but quality is more akin to me attempting to build a snad castle: you will know it's supposed to be a castle, but you just don't want be as a friend from then on :)

I should add that personally I don't have any of their shares - I just stack sats myself. But if I lived in USA, I'd most likely have their shares..
As for your last question.. I can guess here (because I'm not him and can't say what is hype and what is true), and I'd say it's very similar to many similar companies which are doing the same, but with dollars and thus much higher long-term risk (in my judgment).
But as I said.. I'd be guessing about what he really thinks here.
He's however very good at explaining it himself in one of the recent podcast episodes with Natalie Brunell. I'd link it here but don't have it my disposal on my desktop. It's on Fountain.

It's not a problem for Linux as a concept itself. The problem is with legal represneatons of it.
For example let's say you are providing a distrubution (like Ubuntu) or seeling a computer with Linux preinstalled. Then you are liable! Also.. think of all the devices that have linux installed... including Android phones.. ALL of them which have any legal represantion in California (for now! But also New York for example) are liable. BSD... is liable OPen BSD... is well.. BERKELY (aka California) based. This of course means that Chinese distros or Russian distros... will as usual be able to continue operating while the very best won't be or they will have to pay a fine. See... we're not just talkign abouit coding from my garage or something. We're talking legal entitites.
As for Linux being decentralized... you don't have to guess... There's a copy of code avaible on Github and lesewhere.... Just check the forks and you'll see it's decentralized' :) That doesn't mean thought that kernel isn't very central-developed since Linux was born! Kernel is to this day under watchful eye of Linux Torwalds himself + the core kernel developers (drivers specialists, graphics specialists...etc etc etc).
It's a whole universe here, man!
But distros... the big distros are projects that are usually incorporated - that's the whole point! That they can do that using the same kernel freely available. But even if kernel remains as-is, your final Ubuntu distro will either have to follow to law or pay something like 20k per installed Ubuntu machine! Do you understand the problem now?
It's not just 'decetralized' or not... It's practical aplication in real world. Your computer is physical... and if you run linux on it, you're running a distro, a flavor of linux. And if that distro is any of the popular distros then it's like 95% that there's at least an organisation of some kind behind it because it takes A LOT to make a distribution that actually works well as daily desktop driver.

As for the second question: no. Linux is not challenged by google. Its development is influenced through The Linux foundation and not just by Goggle, but also by IBM, Apple, even Valve and many others , but not its status as open source project. That is safe. As for Android... Not great, yes. But linux will stay open. It has nothing to do with it. Think of it as screws you use when you build a table. Table can be as proprioatery as you want, but the screws are still 'open'.

What is imho more problemaic is the new laws in Califronia and elsewhere which attempt to control how the operating system starts and want it to be able to run only when you prove you're of full age. This is direct meddling into projects and the only resuzlt of these laws is that smaller developers and smaller projects can't ever compete because the burden on them is too heavy compared to a burden to a large company. I bet these laws are the results of bullshitters in politics who are now competing who is more 'child-friendly' becaue they don't wanna look like they are Epstein connected in any way. It's a classic result of paranoia we allowed to have come from the Epstein files and the result is fcking things up for everybody just to pretend a poltician or party cares. THAT.. is a real proiblem and it's going on RIGHT NOW! And instead of us all organizing and smashing these stzupidites down we're still obsessed with counting completely out of context names in Epstein files and competing which side has a smaller number.
