As for the relay connection issue, was it just opening the connections and not closing them after requesting an approval or were the connections just being opened without any prompting?

Completely agree! #Nostr lays out an architecture to allow for applications that can be compliant while still giving users sovereignty and choice; that's how I think it should be talked about with non-bitcoin adjacent builders, at least.
Since the physical ad market isn't as saturated, it does stand a good chance of leading to a higher conversion rate if done properly. DuckDuckGo's main traction channels early on was billboards and TV ads, for example. Finding the thing that actually resonates enough to lead to a conversion is the hard part, which is just true of all marketing efforts.
