Not because of the UX.. but because on some you see something that on the other you'll not see or not before some hrs has passed.

You will write a comment to someone's note in #Amrthyst and there's chance you'll never see it on Primal, and vice versa.

I am quite sure it's not only an issue between those two, and this completely fucks up anyone #nostr experience.. we already are a few here and the cross-post visualization in any client should be a primary focus.

Last week I got introduced to a couple dozen people l'd never met as "the Nostr CEO." I laughed. It's a hilarious meme filled with love, support, and inside jokes from this community. I think about this often. I truly love this community. I do love all of you here so very much.

But here's the thing: Nobody owns Nostr. That's the whole point. There's no board or executive team. No algorithm deciding what you see. No trust & safety team deciding what you can say. This is still a powerful selling point for newcomers.

A protocol can't have a CEO. That's why it works! It's why it's cool! We're just humans being humans without software getting in the way. How it should be. Before corporations broke that.

But deep down we know that we can't just be a decentralized alternative that wins people over. The alternatives need to exist in the ecosystem to make the ecosystem whole, however new ideas with unique features is what will bring in the next wave.

Build the weird. Discover the unique. And when it all just works together, that's our superpower that doesn't exist anywhere else.

Humans can walk through them and understand what's happening, but they will never have the level of comprehension required to suggest improvements to them.

i dislike how taboo discussions around money are in leftist activist circles. i see a lot of hand waving. 'money won't be needed in a post capitalist world.' 'money is the root of evil.' 'money is exploitation.' then the conversation ends.

i wish it didn't go like this. money is not inherently evil. it's just a technology. just like language. a technology for transporting value across space and time. that's it. it doesn't have to be exploitative.

the current monetary system is deeply corrupt. imo it's the source of a lot of the world's problems, but the answer isn't to dismiss it. we should strive to build a better one. if the current implementation is broken fork and build your own.

My impression is that Nostr use is increasing, not declining, but less of the interaction is aimed at the people with big npubs posting kind 1 and more at people like me, or people in the smaller accounts talking amongst themselves, or activity in other kinds.

I recently attended the Freedom Tech track at the Oslo Freedom Forum. It was intense and at times uncomfortable, but I left with a renewed feeling of hope. Dedicated builders and activists are now developing tools to push back against digital authoritarianism.

More than 6.2 billion people currently live under authoritarian rule, facing censorship, surveillance, bank freezes and restricted freedoms. For those people, freedom tech is about survival.

Bitcoin as freedom money gives us one of the strongest levers we have to separate money from the state, reduce dependence on permissioned systems and enable individuals to become sovereign.

It is easy to focus on the many problems we face and there are plenty, but there is also tremendous good being created by a growing force of builders and activists who have felt the pain and are determined to fight for freedom.

They are developing private payments, resilient communication networks, peer to peer funding, spyware research and education tools that governments may not like.

It wasn't a mock checkout. It was a real merchant controlled npub, a real product, a real buyer controlled npub, and real sats.

The merchant published sellable state once... the buyer completed the purchase later.

No marketplace custody.
No payment processor in the middle.
No platform holding funds.

Just Nostr for identity, discovery, and commerce. Lightning for settlement.

The dangers of leverage, $NAKA edition:

The company has $210M in debt to Kraken paying 8% APR backed by most of their Bitcoin stash, or 4405 BTC. This loan is due in December and as BTC price lowers, their Loan-to-Value ratio gets worse and worse.

At $63,500, they're at 75% LTV
At $59,600, they're at 80% LTV
At $56,000, they're at 85% LTV

They have a little bit of dry powder left, about 650 BTC that are not pledged to the loan, but they need it to service the 8% interest and the shortfall between revenue and expenditures (particularly executive salaries). Historically, they've tried to hover around 70% LTV, suggesting that the liquidation price isn't too far away from that.

So to sum up, there are many ways for this to go wrong:

1. Bitcoin drops enough where they get liquidated ($50k would certainly do it, probably something higher would also do it)
2. BItcoin stays down until December and they can't roll over the loan.
3. Bitcoin stays down until December and they roll over the loan on punitive terms that reduces their stack quicker than they are now. They would likely have to sell some Bitcoin because they're not getting $210M in loans in this scenario.

There's really only one way for things to go right:

Bitcoin price goes up massively by December.

Even then, the interest payments and operations expenses will likely destroy a ton of value.

The lesson here isn't to dunk on the company. It's just showing you how fragile leveraged positions are. You can have the world's most pristine asset and still lose if the market moves against you.

Apps need three things to work as social platforms:

Sign-in. Search. Tag.

If you can't nail these three fundamentals, nothing else matters. Users bounce before they ever see what makes Nostr special. It's standard for mainstream adoption.

Once those are locked down, the next battle is battery and bandwidth. Using Nostr shouldn't drain my phone dead or eat through my data plan. This is not a nice to have feature. It's time.
