In the first phase, it grows your mid-face forward, I think for me it was about a centimeter. It also expands your pallet laterally as well. For every millimeter that your mid-face grows forward, your airway actually opens up several millimeters. After the first 6 months, there was a drastic improvement in how often my throat would close up at night.&#xA;&#xA;In the second phase, the back teeth are then pulled forward to close the gap you have just created. Throughout the process, your jaw slowly decompresses and swings forward to find a bite equilibrium with your upper teeth. Acrylic pads are used on your back teeth, so that when you are clenching at night, your jaw slides forward rather than locking in.&#xA;&#xA;There are some alternatives to this that would take a lot more effort and conviction, but I don’t know much about them. You should check out that book. I actually came across it when the author went on Joe Rogan, after I had already started the treatment, and it validated to me that I had made the right choice.</html></oembed>
