Cloud in a Bottle launched: an open-source personal cloud aiming to make self-hosting accessible to non-sysadmins.
It is an Ubuntu machine with a web server routing HTTP(s) requests to containerized apps - rootless, hardened containers, so existing software runs with minimal changes in a reasonably secure sandbox. Log into your instance and you're logged into all your apps, plus permissioned data sharing between apps. Zero telemetry, AGPL-3.0, and the self-hosted path runs the same code as Imbue's managed version.
The launch post is frank about the incumbents: yunohost runs apps directly on the host with no sandboxing, coolify apps are islands behind their own logins, nextcloud is slow and unreliable, sandstorm.io was abandoned years back.
Built and tested privately for 6+ months. Early users will need some technical familiarity, or a coding agent.
