The idea of the prevent strategy is to try and intervene early, at one of the schools I worked at, we were told to report a child who was just pretending to be a suicide bomber. Childrens play is partly influenced by the world around them.

I have also undertaken prevent training, so another example is a person exclded from their peer group (which can happen) they feel worthless or unwanted, so are vulnerable to being drawn in to other groups, made to feel they are worth something and those people are the ones who help isolate from friends further and draw them in to another group of friends. The danger is when what they then get involved in puts them at risk of harm or puts others at risk.

The prevent / channel process is designed to help redirect people to more positive activities (which of course the government has now cut youth services dramatically).

The problem is there is a huge divide between exploring a topic and taking violent action.

When, in 2003 the UK and USA illegally invaded iraq, there were protests by pupils (who objected to the invasion) in schools, some schools clamped down on this, other schools sat down and had discussions with the pupils about the subject.l
