It's good to have one but be sure to know what their limitations are. They're not technically a privacy tool and there are really only a handful of trustworthy ones like Proton, Mullvad, IVPN. Even with those, don't act like they'll protect you or make you anonymous. Essentially, they reduce ISP spying (though ISPs can still do deep packet inspection and encrypted DNS already reduces the spying), allow you to bypass geoblocking, and they hide your IP from the sites you visit.

If you're doing anything in a country where your freedom could be at risk (such as the UK with their war on memes), a VPN will not protect you, it won't make you anonymous. There's a lot of effort that goes into privacy and anonymity if you have a higher threat model.
