Ever since awakening came out and the writing was on the wall that the series was undergoing permanent normgroidification, old school fire emblem fans became very introspective, regularly putting out very well articulated explanations for what each games strengths and weaknesses are, how they could be improved, what they would have done differently, how mechanics could be modernized and built upon in better ways than what happened, etc. Yet every single time these guys have gotten together to make their own fire emblem-like, be it a rom hack or an original game, the results have been dogshit. For whatever reason, simply loving a genre and knowing it inside and out isn’t on its own enough to capture the essence of it and produce something worthwhile.
