The main take-away is that there was a move from "punishing", things like beheading and flogging, like punishing the flesh, which is a raw honest expression of power for all to see, to "disciplining" men, which is STILL an expression of raw power but it hides the fact, it makes the punishment on the mind rather than the flesh. It assumes there is a 'perfect' person called the 'disciplened' person, which you can mould men into, and pretends that this is a form of 'care' when it is really a raw expression of power same as when you take a mans head or punish the flesh.
