There are so many screwed up things about this case that no one can bother to include all of them. Like how for the past 15 years state media has reported that he's a rapist based on no actual allegations thereof from anyone. And when he was in Ecuador, before Pompeo bought his citizenship and had him scooped out, a Spanish CIA contractor was caught recording and surveilling all conversations with his legal consul up to that point.
If Assange is freed it will be a great symbolic nail in the coffin of unipolarity. If he dies in prison he'll be made a symbol later, they'll put his face on money when it's safe to make a hero out of him. But if he does not live to be a completely free man I would say it's a good time to tell anyone reporting on anything adjacent to geo politics, if you're an honest person, you can be a (serious) journalist or you can have a family, but moving forward it's neither responsible nor safe to do both. We're basically at that point already
