Friends, I need to admit that I love promotions, discounts and bargains, and more than once my thriftiness, as they say, has bitten me in the ass. Yes, you guessed right I bought a book I already have, just on a different portal. Other times, I've furiously installed various apps even the one from the screaming green alien electronics retailer, only to discover that I'd bought the book from the Vodafone Gallery for points as part of some promo, and subsequently forgotten that such a service even existed. Plus, if it happened to cease to exist, I probably wouldn't even notice. The last piece to the puzzle called "Big Picture" was when I found out that from my favourite platform - Audiolibrix has disappeared the Legion series by Snegonyova and the next volumes can only be bought on Audiotheque (the ones already bought can still be downloaded, but you can't put them in your shopping cart). So, I realized a few things: a) I have a mess in my audiobooks and online purchases of digital content, b) if a service were to go out of business, I probably wouldn't notice and wouldn't be able to access the books anymore, c) there's probably a small but non-zero chance that under certain circumstances (licenses, rights, laws, etc.) the book will just disappear.

So I decided to look for a solution and found Audiobookshelf. The Audiobookshelf project is Open Source and it includes iOS and Android apps, it can be easily run in a Docker container, and although it's pretty much at the beginning, it solves all my above problems and one more with ease. It also solves my problem with podcasts, I do subscribe to on various platforms and either have to stream them from a specific app, or they flow through my phone as downloads and then either disappear or take up space.
