I expect other people on the internet to be adults and to understand their threat model. If you're in a situation where it isn't safe to surf the net without encryption, then don't do that. If you think you're safe, that's your business. If it turns out you were wrong, well, it's your funeral.
Finally, if you can't afford a current device that's capable of handling encrypted connections, or if such a device isn't available in your local market for whatever reason, it doesn't seem right to deny you access.
