I was able to make my way through the dodongo cave. There was an undecipherable puzzle; but I used advanced deduction skills and set two bombs in the giant dodongo skull's eyes and the path opened.
The fight with the boss was easy. Having played another game from that generation (Zelda 1), I already knew what to do even before asking the magic bee for a clue.
I am now making my way to Hyrule town to see if I can buy the Smash Bros shield because the Deku shield burned after being touched by a fire keese for exactly 22 picoseconds. 😠
After that, I'm supposed to go find one of the well-fed fairies atop Death Mountain.
64-bit Daruk didn't have a lot of character development, but maybe I'll see him again later. Or not, because I have his McGuffin. We'll see where things go after that.
