Regarding plants/crops, fires/heat are real and have an impact. As does industrial farming and land use/planning, pesticides, crop cycles, and a bunch of other things which have all changed radically in the last decades and for the worse.
Irrespective to the cost of production, articles in the guardian on food prices aren't about food prices, they're intentional misdirection.
