If this project was ran by Google or Microsoft, even if it had started as a crowdsourced manual effort, they would easily kick out the manual contributors, use their past data to train centralized proprietary AIs and then start offering their proprietary AIs as a service, killing the ideals of the project -- but they would always be able to argue: "but we had this AI technology and we felt it would work better than crowdfunding!".
Luckily SponsorBlock exists to show us that the project doesn't have to lose its decentralized components in order to accomodate the AIs.
