Interior Department announces $138M for wildfire prevention, recovery

The U.S. Department of the Interior has announced a $138 million investment to help prevent wildfires and support areas affected by them. The investment is part of President Biden's Investing in America agenda and aims to support firefighters, reduce the risk of future wildfires, and advance fire recovery. The Department will allocate $12.4 million to modernize fire training and position qualifications, and $7.5 million to aid in the restoration of landscapes damaged by recent wildfires. The Biden administration is accelerating efforts to reduce the risk of wildfires and help affected areas recover. The investment is a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which allocated $878 million to the Interior Department for hazardous fuels management, post-fire restoration and rehabilitation activities, investments in wildfire preparedness, and support for science and research on wildland fire management issues.
