That's what I've heard but it is also much, much more expensive and I can rarely find listings for EF nibs. The 3008 was $15 USD for 4, so $3.75 each. Some listings for the 698 I've seen as high as $50-90 USD.
Though I see one now on aliexpress for $23 (Steel EF) and another $5 for an EF "gold" replacement nib. I have my doubts about the nib material, but it's still tempting.
