…My current thinking is to produce a 1280 pixel wide image which has had an 8 pixel gaussian blur applied. To be displayed at about 640 pixels wide.

As a 30% quality JPEG my test image comes out at 31 KB, but an AVIF of it is just 7 KB.

Add in my less than 2 KB script to generate a play button which instantiates an iframe and plays the video on click, and we have a less than 10 KB solution.

Which is a more than 99% saving on what YouTube does by default
