Likely is you just miss their posts in time. When the client opens it’s not going to download all content from the beginning of time or since you last opened because that would download too much , it would be like syncing a node. So it’s just going to get the last day or last hour and then stay current until you close the client again. Some clients / services are now introducing techniques and algorithms for this use case. I recommend using the Nostur client Nostur (npub1n0s…k6h0) . It implements Web of Trust which would eliminate your hashtag spam. And it also has a bell notification on profiles you can select so whenever an npub posts that you have “subscribed” to you will get an alert. You can also make custom feeds for specific group of people so it shortcuts what you are doing now, you could put all the people you are having trouble seeing and put them in a single feed. I’d try those things.
