i was just thinking about how i do it
science fiction has a longer view but contemporary fiction is meant to speak to the people of its time
altho it's notable that Stephen King name checks all kinds of people & places, if the fic becomes "classic," the later readers not catching the reference doesn't matter-- it becomes color or flavor, maybe?
