If "the system" wanted to survive it wouldn't have brought charges against Trump. Our form of government cannot survive the question "Can the president be convicted of crimes committed while in office, after he leaves office" being asked. Either the answer is "no" and it's instant presidential kill squads, or "yes" and every former president becomes free game for unlimited lawfare once they leave office.
