I realize it's tongue-in-cheek, but I don't think there was ever a time where Sierra-On-Line's text parser was "the best I've ever seen".

Obviously it wasn't the worst either, but Space Quest 1 was released in 1986. Infocom may have been in decline financially, but their parser still holds up pretty well.
